My draft for the 1988 United States House of Representatives elections in Connecticut

@Emfri1188 You need to provide independent sources. You can use the Connecticut government pages for the information you add but they won't mean anything towards notability. Oakville Article

Hello, I was wondering why all but one of my references were considered not reliable or significant.

For reference 2, it was necessary to link to the database and not the PDF, as trying to link to PDF makes it time-out and terminate. I think it's implied that the user should click on the link to download the PDF if they choose to look at the source.

I believe that references 3, 4, and 6 do provide significant information as relating to what they're trying to describe. Are they all supposed to somehow link to the Oakville tornado or talk about it exclusively? I can understand why reference 3 may not be significant, but I think it is very helpful for demonstrating the appearance of the Oakville tornado, as well as showing to users that the Elie and Oakville tornadoes could be seen from the same place. If I revise this, I'll try my best to limit descriptions of the tornados' appearances, beyond what the sources describe alone. I don't understand why reference 4 was considered "not significant". If you scroll down to the upper-air analysis and meteorological synopsis sections (which is where I paraphrased my meteorological synopsis information from), you'll see that the information is very relevant to what I was describing. Again, I'm wondering if it has to go into length about the Oakville tornado specifically, as I think the source is perfectly fine for what I was linking it to, which is the meteorology of the event specifically. The source does mention Oakville multiple times in the radar analysis section. Reference 6 is just a helpful link to the Canadian EF-scale, showing how the winds of the EF-scale are different from those of the F-scale, which is supposed to caution to the readers that the winds of the Oakville tornado shouldn't be taken at face value (as with all F-scale winds in general). I assume that reference 7 would fall better under a user-generated source.

For references 5, 7, 8, and 9, I'm not sure I understand the policy on user-generated content. The items that I linked are primary sources from the tornado and accurately illustrate the damage of the tornado, as well as its appearance and significance. They prove that the tornado has reliable information and lasting coverage, and I don't understand why primary sources from an event, even if user-generated, wouldn't be reliable. If anything, my arcgis story maps reference contains all of the information that I linked to these user-generated sources, so I can just re-route the references to that one.

I'm sorry if I seem a bit upset or overbearing; this is my first article, and I put significant effort into writing the article, ensuring that my sources were correctly linked, and that they were reliable & significant. There's not many more sources on the Oakville tornado (which technically contradicts WP:LASTING, but I think that the tornado, though obscure, is very relevant, and would greatly help in "fleshing out" the June 22-23, 2007 tornado outbreak, which is often under-appreciated and underdiscussed, but deserves more coverage). @Sobriquetical I'm going to note a couple things, I apologize if I misinterpret you.

Sources, as long as they are reliable, can be used to support information you add to the draft. However, be careful of stretching into the original research area (drawing conclusions not explicitly stated in the sources), which is prohibited.

For reference 2, the fact it is a database is fine for using but won't contribute to notability as routine coverage. The main problem is I did not quite understand which document and page the information was located on. That's important to note/include in the reference for readers.

Reference 3 is helpful and can be used to an extent because the images do not guarantee information. Reference 4 talks about the Elie tornado and not provide significant coverage (which is defined by at least one lengthy paragraph directly about the subject). Again, fine to use as long as you don't go into original research territory. I had a hard time finding the significant coverage in Reference 4 as I was mostly scanning through, looking for key words, and I likely missed it because it is quite a large document. Please provide page numbers to me that have the significant coverage. Reference 6 is fine to use but does not provide information directly about the specific tornado. You're right, I mixed up Reference 7 into the non-SIGCOV category accidentally.

WP:SOCIALMEDIA states:

"Self-published and questionable sources may be used as sources of information about themselves, usually in articles about themselves or their activities, without the self-published source requirement that they are established experts in the field, so long as: The material is neither unduly self-serving nor an exceptional claim; It does not involve claims about third parties; It does not involve claims about events not directly related to the source; There is no reasonable doubt as to its authenticity; and The article is not based primarily on such sources."

On a second look I suppose we can use the social media sources for simple claims regarding what is seen if we have at least two social media sources if we use them showing that.

The draft is not a lost cause, don't worry. However, an important thing to note, since there isn't much of a WP:LASTING impact from the tornado, we require strong evidence of sustained, lasting coverage. That means at least two or three reliable published sources providing at least a thick paragraph of information on that exact tornado at least three or four months after the incident. Otherwise, the tornado is unlikely to meet WP:NEVENT.

If you want to flesh out the June 22 and 23 tornado outbreak but cannot find sources to help the draft meet NEVENT, then I suggest adding information to Tornadoes of 2007#June 21–24. As long as you are using reliable sources and relevant, non-trivial information, that is perfectly okay. Notability does not apply to article content.

Don't worry, you're acting perfectly okay in this situation. I actually wish I had these interactions a lot more as a reviewer.

For reference 2, if you click on the first "Public GIS/EN" link and click on the csv file, it will open a spreadsheet with information on each verified tornado in Canada from 1980-2009. If you scroll down to June 23, 2007 (2007 6 23), you'll find the database input for the Oakville tornado, which provides the starting coordinates for the tornado, the time of formation in UTC, the causalities from the tornado (0 fatalities, 0 injuries), the confirmed maximum width of the tornado (200m), and the path length of the tornado (10km/10000m). I've heard that there's a method to correctly reference and link PDF/spreadsheet files, but it's complicated, and it's not helpful that I've constructed my entire article using the mobile visual editor.

I'm sorry that I didn't provide the page numbers for the academic paper. Is there a way to include that when referencing the link? My meteorological synopsis section is based on sections 4.1-4.2 (pgs. 68-108). More specifically, my two paragraphs about the meteorological setup are based on sections 4.1 alone, which discusses upper-air and surface-based analyses. The paper occasionally describes the Oakville tornado on pgs. 105-107, relating to storm C.

I'll see what I can do in regards to the social media links. I'll lessen the claims that I'm trying to make using the photos and videos from the event. I think I have them correctly cited.

In creating this article, WP:LASTING has been my main concern the entire time. I feel like Oakville certainly deserves its own article, as it's a unique and significant tornado worthy of recognition, but it's just fairly obscure and doesn't have much media coverage. I think, in fringe cases like this, where it is a historical event that's absolutely worthy of recognition but just doesn't have much coverage (though I believe I was able to write a lot on the tornado for what information I was able to work with), it seems like the policy actually works against itself. I really do think this event needs to be more recognized, but that implies that it isn't exactly notable in media coverage right now. I really would like this tornado to have its own article, as the information is then more "front and center" and can be easily accessed/found by readers. I think it would be a great contribution to the tornado outbreak, and the information database on Wikipedia as a whole. If it is accepted, I intend to add photos to the article that illustrate the tornado and its damage, which would greatly improve the article and its integrity as whole. I simply can't add photos right now, as all of the images that I plan to upload are copyrighted, and will need a fair use/non free use rationale. Sobriquetical (talk) 19:34, 18 July 2026 (UTC)

I resubmitted my Oakville article, with improvements in fluidity, clarity, and references. I took all of your suggestions for the references, included more, ensured all of my points were appropriately cited, and reconfigured my references to fit Wikipedia standards. I kept the user-generated content links based on the discussion we had about their suitability, but I removed "outlandish" claims beyond what the media itself could confirm. I also adjusted some of my phrasing for neutrality, and tried to remove any opinion-based or "self-research" sentences. I fixed the tornado database csv source to redirect it to a section where the csv could be easily found and downloaded, but I did not link it directly to the csv, as it terminates the link, and Wikimedia Commons does not support the upload of a csv file. 2026 Minnesota Wildfires page

I'd like to thank you for starting the 2026 Minnesota wildfires page, and for your diligence in continuing to maintain it regularly. As a Minnesota, it is a hugely important thing up here right now. I'm so glad that this article was made so quickly, and that it's been run watching it grow as developments happen.
