Introduction to contentious topics

[edit]

You have recently edited a page related to the topics of Kurds and Kurdistan, broadly construed, a topic designated as contentious. This is a brief introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.

A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia’s norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have an expanded level of powers and discretion in order to reduce disruption to the project.

Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:

Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures, you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.

Information icon Hello, I'm Doug Weller. I noticed that you added or changed content in an article, Piri Reis, but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so. You can have a look at referencing for beginners. If you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Where you added Kurdish as his ethnicity Doug Weller talk 15:15, 6 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Your DNA articles

Thanks for your contributions to Kurdish scientists and scholars. Unfortunately, I do not think it is ready for publishing at this time because it has no sources and page formatting needs to be fixed before publishing. I have converted your article to a draft which you can improve, undisturbed for a while.

Please see more information at Help:Unreviewed new page. When the article is ready for publication, please click on the "Submit for review" button at the top of the page OR move the page back. CycloneYoris talk! 21:31, 6 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello, I'm Jlwoodwa. An article that you recently made, David Rajulkahf, seemed to be generated using a large language model (an "AI chatbot" or another application using such technology). Text produced by these applications can be unsuitable for an encyclopedia, and output must be carefully checked. In particular, you should check each citation, and fictitious references must be removed. If you want to practice editing, please use your sandbox. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks. jlwoodwa (talk) 04:00, 3 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Please do not replace Wikipedia pages with blank content, as you did at Arbat Town. Your content removal does not appear to be constructive and has been reverted. If you think that the page should be deleted, please read Wikipedia:How to delete a page. If you only meant to make a test edit, please use your sandbox for that. Thank you. 184.152.65.118 (talk) 02:27, 13 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you tried to give Arbat Town a different title by cutting its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into another page with a different name. This is known as a "cut-and-paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is legally required for attribution. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.

In most cases for registered users, once your account is four days old and has ten edits, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page (the tab may be hidden in a dropdown menu for you). This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other pages that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Requests for history merge. Thank you. 184.152.65.118 (talk) 02:48, 13 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

To clarify the above, you need to go to WP:RM/TR and follow the instructions there to move the page to a new title. 184.152.65.118 (talk) 02:49, 13 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Atom7926. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or draft page you started, "Kurdish scientists and scholars".

In accordance with our policy that Wikipedia is not for the indefinite hosting of material, the draft has been deleted. Hello, Atom7926,

Thank you for creating Firmesk Hafez.

I have tagged the page as having some issues to fix, as a part of our page curation process and note that:

The article you created is clearly copied entirely from FH's website at https://firmesk.com/biography/, which says at the bottom " © Firmesk | All rights reserved"

I would have nominated the article for speedy deletion as "G-12: copyright violation", but will leave the AfD to make its progress so that her notability can also be considered.

Do not steal other writers' work and claim it as your own. Wikipedia takes a strong line on copyright violations. PamD 11:12, 11 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. Regarding your recent edits to Renwar Rebeen when you modified the page, you introduced unknown parameters. Just because you specify |some_param=some_variable does not always mean that variable will display. The |some_param= must be defined in the template. You can look at the documentation for the template you are using but it is also helpful to use the preview button before you save your edit; this helps you find any errors you have made and ensure that the values you have added are displaying correctly. Below the edit box is a Show preview button. Pressing this will show you what the page will look like without actually saving it. It is strongly recommended that you use this before saving. Note I have likely fixed the error by now so check the history of the page to see how it was fixed. If you have any questions, contact the help desk for assistance. Thank you. References

[edit]

Hallo and thank you for working to improve wikipedia's coverage of Kurdish women.

But please take more care about references. Before you leave an article, click each link to make sure that it actually works.

I could not find your single source for Arezu Jahani-Asl, but by Googling I tracked down the source at a slightly different URL and have added it to the article with a properly formatted reference.

Please remember that every reference should include as much information as you would include in a reference in a printed work, so the title, author if available, date of publication where available, and in the case of a news item the source, in the case of a publication the publisher. If it is anything online, then you must also include the date you accessed it, because (a) web pages sometimes change, so the same page may not show the same content at a later date, and (b) if the page disappears or changes, a reader with the date has a chance of finding the version you were citing by searching the Internet Archive or similar.

Your style of references, with a link labelled "source", is very unusual, and you are regularly omitting key information. Please consider using a standard reference format, but in particular please include more information to make your references acceptable. You can see the format I used for the upgraded version of your reference in Arezu Jahani-Asl.

You might find Help:Referencing for beginners useful.

There is a lot to learn about editing Wikipedia but it is an interesting journey. Happy Editing! PamD 19:07, 24 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Sarkaw Hadi Ayze requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia, as it exhibits signs of having been generated by an AI model with no clear human review. Text produced by these applications can be unsuitable for an encyclopedia and output must be carefully checked. For further information, see the section G15 of the criteria for speedy deletion.

If you think these signs were incorrectly identified and you assert that you did carefully check the content, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Additionally – if you would like to create an article but find it difficult, please ask for help at the Teahouse. Nil🥝 23:48, 29 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
