Removing timestamps

[edit]

Regarding this edit: although I cannot confirm it for this specific edit, as I was not subscribed to the thread, when a timestamp is removed or altered, the corresponding notification to subscribers can no longer be followed to the associated comment. Thus I no longer modify timestamps in my own comments, in order to preserve the links for notifications. isaacl (talk) 23:12, 9 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Hey there! I removed the timestamp because it was the same exact timestamp as the one at the top of the section, the RfC question. The intent is so Special:GoToComment permalinks (when the discussion gets archived and disappears from transclusion) will go to the comment with the RfC question, not the comment with my !vote. The notification link probably led to the RfC question anyways, though; I was only thinking about the permalinks. Aaron Liu (talk) 23:26, 9 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Looking at Special:PermanentLink/1337474944, the comment permalink for the first section is different than the one for your first comment, as the heading is incorporated into the permalink. So I don't think there was a need to remove it. The notification link uses the same anchors as the comment permalink feature. isaacl (talk) 23:50, 9 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Interesting. It did show up under Special:FindComment/c-Aaron_Liu-20260126172200-Guideline_status_for_WP:CLOSE before I removed it, though. Aaron Liu (talk) 01:45, 10 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Question from JeffreyHouse 2004 on User:JeffreyHouse 2004/sandbox (01:47, 12 February 2026)

[edit]

I want to post a page of references for consideration --JeffreyHouse 2004 (talk) 01:47, 12 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome! A page of references for consideration for what? Aaron Liu (talk) 01:50, 12 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Try setting Dark Reader to Dynamic. Is Filter inverting the emojis‽ In fact you could probably turn Dark Reader off since MediaWiki now has its own dark mode selected from the Appearance menu, which for some reason is accessed through the incognito-goggles button. Aaron Liu (talk) 01:37, 26 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
I don't have Dark Reader installed (I assume you mean this thing right? I use the one at the bottom of Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-gadgets with the dark mode toggle gadget. It sucks. Polygnotus (talk) 01:48, 26 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, I would recommend you use that instead. It's quite good, configurable, and applies to all sites. Aaron Liu (talk) 23:44, 28 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Ok thanks, I'll give it a try. The CSS thing is not great for various boring reasons. Polygnotus (talk) 23:47, 28 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Maybe don't reply to every !vote you disagree with. Trust me, I know how difficult this is. Just allow people to be wrong on the internet, without correcting them? It is madness. Polygnotus (talk) 17:10, 28 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
I see now why the guidelining RfCs are supposed to be on the talk pages: I'm approaching them as if they were talk page discussions, trying to work out concerns with which to improve the article page. I wish there was a peer review stage for proposed guidelines. Aaron Liu (talk) 23:47, 28 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah ,the trick is usually to pretend those things don't exist, and if someone starts lawyering just ignore them or throw mud in their general direction until they stop. Polygnotus (talk) 23:49, 28 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
