Content Arbitration Committee

[edit]

This is a proposal for a trial of a content arbitration committee.

The problem

[edit]

Wikipedia does not have an effective mechanism to deal with content disputes. Editors may go to noticeboards such as WP:NPOV, WP:RS. However often arrive at WP:ArbCom spend months and are finally told we at ArbCom do not deal with content issues.

Many productive Wikipedians spend thousands of hours debating a topic on the talk pages but with WP:SPA those who are attempting to bring about neutrality are out numbered / out spoken by those with a conflict of interest. As long as all editors or civil nothing seems to get accomplished. Example of this include: Rorschach test and Transcendental Meditation.

Solution

[edit]

Editors need a final arbitration committee which deals with content issues. As this idea has received a lot of doubt regarding its effectiveness I suggest a trial be setup.

  1. We gather a dozen or so interested editors. If interested please add your name here
  2. These editors will accept cases that fail all other means of resolution and deal with a single contentious issue or question.
  3. Those presenting the case will provide the pertinent best quality evidence address all sides.
  4. The committee will hear the arguements based on content and vote based on Wikipedia policies of WP:NPOV, WP:DUE, WP:RS, etc.
  5. These decisions may be either enforceable or none enforceable however with a group of 12 editors weighting in most issues will be resolved and those Wikipedians who deal with controversial issues will than have something to refer to decrease future controversy.
