Just in case

[edit]

It's not impossible that, this year (2015), there will be No Award for this category. If that occurs, how should we represent that in the template? DS (talk) 15:48, 14 June 2015 (UTC)Reply

It would be nice to see 'no award' instead of just skipping the year since no award is something significant with respect to the Hugos, I don't know enough about templates to know how to best implement it though. Suppafly (talk) 17:18, 17 December 2015 (UTC)Reply

Request self-reversion

[edit]

@Woodensuperman: I am making a second formal request for you to self-revert your changes to this template. The template has included decade splits since its creation in 2010. You removed those splits and I reverted them per WP:BRD. You then re-instated your changes. This was discussed on my talk page, see here. Per BRD, you should reinstate the original format and seek consensus before making such changes. This request applies to all of the Hugo, Locus, Nebula, and Ignyte Awards templates that you have changed in this way. I would again suggest making a post at Wikipedia talk:Manual of Style/Novels to discuss these changes, if you would like to keep them. Michelangelo1992 (talk) 12:19, 23 March 2026 (UTC)Reply

Decade splits are abitrary and unnecessary, and actually increase the size of a navbox unnaturally. With the years in parentheses after each title, they provide zero benefit and actually cause WP:LISTGAP issues. What is the justification for splitting? --woodensuperman 12:25, 23 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
A list with 70+ items is difficult to navigate simply given its length. If I wanted to look for the winner of the 1983 award, for example, I would need to visually search through each line to find it. This is inefficient. Whereas, in the old style, I could start by looking for the 1980s row and then my eyes would track to the 1983 entry efficiently. The size increase is minimal in terms of the potential benefit regarding ease of use.
I do not see any List Gap issues. Additionally, please see WP:STYLEVAR for the proper way to go about the process of changing styles. "If you believe an alternative style would be more appropriate for a particular article, seek consensus by discussing this at the article's talk page or – if it raises an issue of more general application or with the MoS itself – at Wikipedia talk:Manual of Style." Nonsense, the year is clearly shown in parentheses, you can easily see where in the list you are looking. --woodensuperman 12:48, 23 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
Since we have not been able to come to a consensus, I have started an RfC at Wikipedia talk:Manual of Style/Novels. See here. I would request to move discussion there, as this affects multiple award templates in the literary space. Michelangelo1992 (talk) 13:07, 23 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
With particular reference to navboxes in Category:Ignyte Award navigational boxes, it appears these awards have only been in existence since 2020, so there isn't even a decade to split by!! --woodensuperman 12:27, 23 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
