Conflict-of-interest edits

[edit]

I believe I have found evidence of some malicious editing on this page dating to 2012.

At 2:00pm on 3 February 2012, User:Gk1793 made an edit [1] removing the entire Legal problems section of the page for no given reason. This was reverted 15 minutes later, and User:Gk1793 then removed the same section again [2] at 5:00pm which remained removed. This user has a total of 5 edits - the only other page they edited was Chuck Blazer, also attempting twice [3][4] to remove a Controversies section which was restored both times.

Six months later in August 2012, Shep Messing and Chuck Blazer launched a business together.[1] At this point Blazer was already a "controversial figure"[1] and a year later he was found guilty of corruption at FIFA. It's quite clear that these are connected malicious edits made as these two went into business together.

I can find no previous evidence of this ever being discussed, and it is not mentioned in the Conflict-of-interest editing or Vandalism pages. Is this information relevant for this page, or the Conflict-of-interest page? Does this count as first-hand research?

N.b. I find it amusing that this account has Gk in the username, bearing in mind Shep Messing was a goalkeeper... Timmeh (talk) 11:20, 24 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

@Spike 'em @Jkudlick thanks for your thoughts - I'll leave it here. Timmeh (talk) 09:27, 27 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think you'll get much traction trying to investigate edits that happened 14 years ago by an account that hasn't editted since then. The content removed is still in the articles (though some of it editted down, which was necessary). Spike 'em (talk) 12:53, 24 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Though I notice that the legal issues section was re-added by you a couple of weeks ago, so your investigations have helped improve the article. Spike 'em (talk) 15:50, 24 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
I concur. That was a short-lived incident that was resolved without requiring administrator intervention. If you ask for an admin to take action, they will tell you that no action against an account that last edited 14 years ago would be worth taking.
