U.N. Ambassador

This article asserts--and the cited source (along with other sources) agrees--that McCall served as "a member of the U.S. delegation to the United Nations with the rank of Ambassador". However, the list of U.N. ambassadors at United States Ambassador to the United Nations does not include him. I am wondering which one is correct. SunCrow (talk) 03:14, 10 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The discrepancy may be because the article does not imply that he was UN ambassador, which he definitively was not, but that he was given a presidential appointment that carried the title of ambassador. This is still a significant claim that should have a WP:RS citation as verification. Unless such verification can be found and added, I would support removal of that item from the article. A search shows many instances in which he is identified as an ambassador, so I’ve added one citation to confirm the language of the article. There are some sources available that incorrectly identify him as having been the American ambassador to the United Nations, but this is incorrect as he never held that role.
