movies
[edit]There seems to be more about the film adaptations here than on the page about the films actually made. That being the case, I'll leave my comment here. In the movies, real prominent conservative individuals appear in cameos. Should(n't) this be mentioned? 98.45.190.70 (talk) 19:49, 12 September 2021 (UTC)
Setting
[edit]I have been told that in addition to the setting being generally dystopic, the common people in Atlas Shrugged are shown as extremely incapable, more so than could reasonably be expected of normal humans. Something terrible has apparently happened to the people of the setting that helps account for the economic malaise (since too many people are too dumb to keep the economy healthy).
If this is accurate someone with better knowledge than I should expand the Setting section of the article. 2601:441:8381:CAC0:C073:D754:79E9:7410 (talk) 22:22, 10 November 2023 (UTC)
IP addition to lead about political influence
[edit]A series of IP addresses (presumably the same individual since they all geolocate to the same city) has been adding into the lead variations of a claim that the novel's influence on politicians has been "to justify selfishness". This uncited addition is not supported by any statements in the body of the article. The novel's political influence is typically associated with its critiques of socialism and government intervention, not with Rand's views on egoism. Since the IP has inserted this for the fourth time in a week, I am opening this discussion to ask if they have some explanation for this commentary. RL0919 (talk) 17:00, 6 March 2024 (UTC)
- Lack of sourcing aside, it's a creative value-laden opinion / spin by one person and as such does not any information or anything useful to the article. Sincerely, North8000 (talk) 18:04, 6 March 2024 (UTC)
- The IP is back at it and doesn't seem to grasp the significance of edit warring notices, so I've reported it to WP:AN3. --RL0919 (talk) 04:32, 2 April 2024 (UTC)
Correction
[edit]The quote is "the LOVE of money is the root of all evil", not the money itself. Often misquoted and entirely different 173.243.206.73 (talk) 02:42, 25 January 2025 (UTC)
- The quote in the article is from Atlas Shrugged, not the Bible. The way it's written in the article is the way that Rand wrote it. Schazjmd (talk) 16:10, 25 January 2025 (UTC)
Influence and legacy
[edit]I am very new to editing Wikipedia, please go easy on me.
In Peter Thiel's Wiki-entry it mentions his affinity for Ayn Rand. Multiple times he has mentioned her, and I can find at least two times where he has mentioned this book specifically. Given his somewhat unarguable influence on American Politics, is this worth including? ~2025-31101-31 (talk) 09:56, 4 November 2025 (UTC)
- I think it's relevant to the article about him, but not to the article about the book. Atlas Shrugged is admired by many people of influence, and I think the Influence and legacy section summarizes that effectively; adding more names wouldn't increase readers' understanding.
