Stationeers is a space station construction and management simulation video game developed and published by New Zealand-based studio RocketWerkz. Initially inspired by Space Station 13, it places players in control of building and operating a space station on various planets & moons, managing complex systems such as atmospherics, power, and resources, either alone or with others in online multiplayer. Development
[edit]Stationeers is actively developed by RocketWerkz, founded in December 2014 by Dean Hall, the creator of the survival game mod DayZ. The studio, based in Auckland, New Zealand, aimed to create challenging interactive experiences. Hall directes the project, drawing inspiration from multiplayer simulations like Space Station 13 to focus on long-term base-building and galactic exploration.
The game was announced in 2017 and released into early access on Steam that December. Development has involved regular updates, incorporating community feedback through Steam forums and primarily Discord to refine features, add content, and improve usability. The game uses the Unity engine and supports multithreading for performance in large-scale simulations.
Stationeers has received generally positive feedback from players, holding a "Very Positive" rating on Steam and over 7,300 user reviews being favorable as of late 2025.
