History

[edit]

ScanSource was founded in Greenville, South Carolina in 1992 and became publicly traded on the Nasdaq in 1994.[4]

Intelisys acquisition (2016)

[edit]

In August 2016, ScanSource announced an agreement to acquire Intelisys, an industry-leading technology services distributor of business telecommunications and cloud services. The all-cash transaction included an initial purchase price of approximately $83.6 million, plus earn-out payments based on EBITDA over four years with an estimated range of $100 million to $150 million.[5] The acquisition marked ScanSource's entry into the technology services distribution market and the agent channel, significantly expanding its business beyond hardware distribution.[6]

POS Portal acquisition (2017)

[edit]

In 2017, ScanSource agreed to acquire POS Portal, a payments device supplier, for approximately $145 million, expanding its presence in the payments technology market.[7]

Operations

[edit]

ScanSource operates two primary business segments: Specialty Technology Solutions, which covers hardware including barcode, point-of-sale, payments, networking, and security products; and Intelisys & Advisory, which covers technology services distribution including connectivity, cloud, and managed services.[1]

For the fiscal year ended June 30, 2025, the company reported net sales of $3.04 billion and approximately 2,100 employees.[1]

Recognition

[edit]

ScanSource has appeared on the Fortune World's Most Admired Companies list for ten consecutive years as of 2026, ranking fourth in the Wholesalers: Electronics and Office Equipment category.[3] The company also ranks on the Fortune 1000 list of the largest U.S. companies by revenue.[1]

2026 reorganization

[edit]

In early 2026, ScanSource reorganized its sales structure to align its hardware distribution and technology services distribution businesses, giving hardware-focused sales representatives a pathway to sell cloud and connectivity services through the Intelisys platform.[8][9]
