Meadows in Pakistan are natural high-altitude grasslands in the mountainous regions of Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Kashmir, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. These meadows provide scenic views, alpine vegetation, and access to remote trekking routes.
Gilgit Baltistan
[edit]Gilgit Baltistan is home to some of Pakistan’s most famous alpine meadows, located near the Karakoram and western Himalayas.
Fairy Meadows
[edit]Fairy Meadows (locally “Joot”) sits at the base of Nanga Parbat. It is accessible via Raikot Bridge followed by a steep jeep ride and then a trek. The area is noted for its lush pine forests, wildflower meadows, and panoramic views of Nanga Parbat. It also serves as a base for trekking toward the Nanga Parbat Base Camp.
Deosai Plains
[edit]The Deosai Plains are located at an elevation exceeding 4,000 m and are known for seasonal wildflower blooms and their importance as habitat for species such as the Himalayan brown bear.
Rama Meadows
[edit]Situated near the Astore Valley, Rama Meadows are characterized by pine forests, streams, and views of Rama Lake and nearby mountain peaks.
Minimarg Meadows
[edit]The region around Minimarg near the Burzil Pass includes alpine lakes such as Rainbow Lake and Domel, and offers remote meadows accessible via high mountain trails.
Mezro Meadows
[edit]Mezro Meadows are in the Naltar Valley and provide forested paths and grassy clearings with distant glacier vistas.
Kutwal Meadows
[edit]Located in the Haramosh Valley, these meadows include Kutwal Lake and offer views of prominent peaks like Haramosh Peak.
Basho Meadows
[edit]Basho Valley, in Roundu District, features alpine meadows, pine woods, and dramatic mountain slopes.
Other Gilgit Baltistan Meadows
[edit]Other meadows are found in regions including Minapin (toward Rakaposhi), Ghizer District (Phandar, Yasin, Ishkoman), Chapursan, Shimshal, Bagrot Valley, Rondu, and Thallay.
Azad Jammu & Kashmir
[edit]In Azad Kashmir, meadows are often found on ridges above glacial valleys, offering both serenity and high-altitude terrain.
Ratti Gali Meadows
[edit]These meadows surround Ratti Gali Lake and bloom vividly in summer.
Ganga Choti
[edit]Ganga Choti is a hilltop meadow that can be reached via Sudhan Gali.
Baboon Meadows
[edit]Located above the Neelum Valley, these meadows provide high-altitude pastureland and scenic views.
Ghore Mar Meadows
[edit]These are situated in the remote parts of the Haveli District of Azad Kashmir.
Dumail Meadow
[edit]Dumail lies near Kel and is marked by a confluence of two streams and tree-lined slopes.
Other Meadows in Azad Kashmir
[edit]Additional meadows are located near Sharda, Toli Pir, and in upland areas of Bagh.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
[edit]Khyber Pakhtunkhwa offers some easily accessible alpine meadows popular with tourists.
Siri Paye Meadows
[edit]Siri Lake and the adjacent Paye Meadows sit above Shogran and provide lovely views toward Makra Peak.
Lalazar Meadows
[edit]Lalazar is a plateau meadow above Battakundi in the Kaghan Valley.
Jahaz Banda
[edit]This is a large meadow in the Kumrat Valley. Treks from here often lead to Katora Lake.
Qaqlasht Meadows
[edit]This plateau above Booni in Chitral is known locally for its community festivals.
Dana Meadows
[edit]Found in the high reaches of the Kaghan Valley, they are less visited but deeply scenic.
Kalam Meadows
