McCulloch Intermediate School (abbreviated MIS) is an intermediate school in University Park, Texas under the Highland Park Independent School District. The school is shared by Highland Park Middle School. It was established in 1922 as the Highland Park High School on Normandy Avenue in the Jacobean style.[1] The school opens at 7:30 a.m, and closes at 3:25 p.m.[2] It has approximately 885 - 887 students, and has a average teacher experience of 14 years.[3] As of the 2023-2024 school year, an average teacher's salary was $64,163.[4]

History

The school was built in 1922 under the name Highland Park High School, which moved to Emerson Avenue in 1937. The school's 2015 bond funded a underground parking garage, and in 2025, the athletic's field and playground were both redone with new turf, football goalposts, and other equipment.[5][6]

The school operates a clinic, reserved for conferences, planning, and emergency care.

Cafeteria

The school cafeteria requires all students to make purchases using their cafeteria account. If a student's balance reaches -$15, the account is temporarily suspended until the outstanding amount is paid. Upon a second occurrence or the balance reaching -$15, the account is suspended for the reminder for the school year, and the student is restricted to cash-only transactions.[8]
