There does not seem to be any difference in here between step-family and in-laws. How do you tell the difference in French between my wife's mother (my mother-in-law) and my father's new wife (my step-mother)? Less significantly, the same problem could arise between my half-sister who is my blood relative, my step-sister (my step-mother's daughter from a previous relationship) and my sister-in-law (my wife's sister) who are not my blood relatives. Correct identification of 'la belle-mère' appears the most important though. Peter R Runes 15:00, 21 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
