Talk:Bartending/Work/Responsibilities and duties

I'd like to see a bit of a rewrite in some areas. There are plenty of chain bars here in the UK where staff drinking is not allowed and not every country places a fine on bar staff who serve underage customers, in restaurants in the UK you may in fact serve a half pint to a minor accompanied by their parents whilst seated for a meal. And none of the skills here are required in certain venues where you are simply an autonomous worker. I'm just asking for a better clarification of the context perhaps just a rename to "How to be a good bartender" and a clarification that these are the qualities expected in a low traffic, high quality bar and are not representative of busy student clubs, restaurants and venues with few regulars and other venues where quality of service is not a high priority. Im sure everyone can think of a bar theyve been to where this is the case. Ive never seen a bar here give out candy so perhaps a mention that its customary in the US but maybe im wrong or the bartenders dont like me. As for the lighter for lighting customers smokeables, smoking in bars is illegal in ireland, illegal next summer in all UK countries (following a recent policy change last month from restaurants to all bars and enclosed public spaces[1]) and im fairly sure its illegal to smoke at the bar in a large number of US states. Something should also be mentioned while its important to be friendly sometimes you will get complete jerks demanding service and swearing and while you should give them a chance to improve their attitude you should be able to handle this and have them removed by the manager and/or security if necessary Discordance 01:25, 3 March 2006 (UTC)
