Petrov's Defence: Italian Variation

[edit | edit source]

3. Bc4

[edit | edit source]

This move is usually played by beginners, who are used to the Italian Game, however this does leave the e4 pawn hanging.

Black can take the undefended e4 pawn with 3...Nxe4, but could also just transpose to the Two Knights Defence with 3...Nc6.
