TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia’s Thomas Cup team trounced Thailand 4-1 in Thomas Cup 2016 Group B in Kunshan, Tuesday, May 17, 2016. Indonesia is currently topping the group, followed by Thailand, Hong Kong and India.
Indonesia failed to secure a point in the fourth match. Indonesia’s men’s double Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo/Marcus Fernaldi Gideon were overpowered by Puavaranukroh Dechapol/Bodin Issara, 14-21, 21-11, 17-21.
“Thailand did seek for wins in the first match and the second match. Kevin/Marcus’ playing style is similar to that of the opponents. Kevin/Marcus failed to dictate the tempo of their play, their opponents also changed their game to speed it up and Kevin/Marcus were dictated by the opponents’ tempo,” said Indonesia’s Thomas and Uber Cup Teams Manager, Rexy Mainaky.
Indonesia grabbed the final point in the triumph through Antony Sinisuka Ginting who played in the last match against Adulrach Namkul. The former SGS PLN Bandung player won 21-18, 21-19.
“It was my first match in Thomas Cup [2016], so I only learned about the wind directions. Even though Indonesia’s team have secured the win, I was still determined to win, I didn’t want to lose,” Anthony said.
Indonesia’s Thomas Cup team will face India today in Kunshan at 1:30 local time.
