TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Entering the peak of the rainy season, which is projected to occur from December 2025 to March 2026 according to the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of South Sumatra has declared a flood and landslide alert in five regencies/cities.

The Head of the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of South Sumatra, M. Iqbal Alisyahbana, stated that the five regencies/cities are Ogan Komering Ulu Regency, Pagar Alam City, Prabumulih City, Musi Banyuasin Regency, and Banyuasin Regency.

Iqbal mentioned that the alert status for these five areas was designated to facilitate coordination between regions, including with the provincial and central governments. He urged areas categorized as disaster-prone to promptly declare an alert status to facilitate the efforts of all parties involved.

"We hope that other areas, especially regencies with disaster-prone areas such as Lubuk Linggau City, Musi Rawas Regency, North Musi Rawas, Lahat, and others, will raise their status as soon as possible," said Iqbal on Friday, December 12, 2025.

Meanwhile, for the provincial alert designation, Iqbal stated that as a result of a cross-sectoral coordination meeting held on Thursday, December 4, 2025, the South Sumatra government agreed to raise the disaster alert status.

"Now we are just waiting for the governor's decree. The letter is already at the Legal Bureau; hopefully, it will be issued soon. Hopefully, by next week, South Sumatra will be on alert for (disasters)," said Iqbal.
