Why Audiobooks Are Brilliant

I freaking love audiobooks! I know a lot of people use them for their commute—I watched a vlog on YouTube recently where a group of friends listened to a mystery while on a road trip—but I love listening to audiobooks while I engage in my other hobbies.

The Perfect Companion for Everything

They’re wonderful while I’m playing cozy games like my latest obsession, Fields of Mistria. (That game is a must if you enjoyed Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Stardew Valley, or Coral Island and love a pastel colour scheme.) And I love listening to them while colouring or working in my journals. It feels very meta when I’m working in my reading journal while listening to an audiobook!

“It feels very meta when I’m working in my reading journal while listening to an audiobook!”

The Hidden Benefits

But there are many other benefits to audiobooks, like:

  • Giving your eyes a rest from screens and books
  • Improving your listening skills and concentration
  • Better time management—multitask like a pro
  • Accessibility for those with visual impairments or reading difficulties

Make It a Gift

With Christmas quickly approaching, now is the time to discover this amazing hobby for yourself—or it would make a wonderful gift! The current festive sale has incredible offerings, whether you want cute and cozy or dark and mysterious.

My Top Picks from the Festive Sale

🎄 Lovelight Farms by B.K. Borison

Oh, the cute coziness of this book! It’s set on a Christmas tree farm with a friends-to-lovers romance and almost reaches Gilmore Girls vibes—but our next book surpasses them.

Perfect for: Rom-com lovers who want holiday cheer Listening time: ~10 hours

🌲 The Christmas Tree Farm by Laurie Gilmore

The epitome of seasonal cozy romance. The covers alone will hook you into this series (and there’s a colouring book!).

Perfect for: Anyone who needs a Gilmore Girls fix Listening time: ~8 hours

🐰 Peter Rabbit: Christmas Is Coming by Beatrix Potter

Peter Rabbit is just the sweetest. I can’t imagine anything better than listening to this while colouring by the fireside (sadly, I have no fireplace, so maybe one of those YouTube videos).

Perfect for: Family listening or nostalgic comfort Listening time: ~2 hours

🔪 The Most Wonderful Crime of the Year by Ally Carter

Gives festive Knives Out vibes but is much cozier. I listened to this last December while on holiday in Gran Canaria. It was perfect for keeping my head in the season while soaking up the sun.

Perfect for: Mystery fans who want festive without too dark Listening time: ~10 hours

📖 Little Women by Louisa May Alcott

This story just instantly transports me to the winter season. The March sisters’ warmth makes even the coldest days feel cozy.

Perfect for: Classic literature lovers and nostalgic souls Listening time: ~9 hours

👻 A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens

One of the OG Christmas tales when Christmas tales were ghost stories. We need more Christmas ghost stories, I think.

Perfect for: Those who like their holidays with a side of spooky Listening time: ~3 hours

Cosy Reading The Lighthouse Keeper's Daughter Book Hazel Gaynor

Don’t Miss This Sale!

Remember, this sale ends November 20—that’s less than a week away! Don’t forget to check out the full sale here. Libro.fm is a wonderful service, and it feels so good to support my local bookshop which doesn’t offer audiobooks otherwise.

Books I Read

We had some glorious weather here in Ireland at the beginning of May, which always puts me in the mood to lounge on the patio, cocktail in one hand and a book in the other. So, that’s exactly what I did. It didn’t last long, but it was absolutely lovely while it did.

Side note: I recently discovered that the photo above – originally uploaded to my Unsplash—has been used in a scrapbook paper collection on Shein. Unsplash photos are free for any use, so that’s totally fine; it was just a bit surreal to see it there! If you like the photo, you can download it for free from Unsplash – no need to pay Shein.

  • Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen, ★★★★★
    • This book needs no introduction – it’s a classic! Even if you’ve never read it, you’ve almost certainly heard of it and have a good sense of whether it’s your kind of story. Personally, I absolutely love it. I think this was my third read! I wanted to revisit it because one of my summer projects is to annotate a print edition using a kit from my shop.
    • Pride and Prejudice is ideal for readers who enjoy witty social critiques woven into slow-burning romantic dramas, where sharp banter and flawed characters challenge societal norms and personal biases.
    • Get a copy on Bookshop.org or Libro.fm
  • Ghost Walk by Cassandra Gannon, ★★★☆☆
    • A very light-hearted paranormal romance with a touch of humour. It was fun, if a little silly, and time travel plots tend to irritate me a bit so it’s a solid three stars from me.
    • Ghost Walk is ideal for readers who enjoy fast-paced, adventurous love stories blending historical intrigue with supernatural elements, where opposites—like a pragmatic skeptic and a charming ghost—unite to unravel mysteries across time.
    • Available on Amazon
  • Mothering by Ainslie Hogarth
    • I’m finishing up the month with this book currently on my ‘reading now’ shelf. I’m still in the early chapters, but it’s already hooked me.
    • Motherthing is ideal for readers who enjoy darkly humorous and emotionally intense horror stories that explore complex family dynamics and psychological struggles through a blend of domestic tension and supernatural elements.
    • Get a copy on Bookshop.org

Books I Bought

I didn’t buy much this month but I’m really excited about the books I got.

Select a title to view on Bookshop.org or Libro.fm. Preview from The StoryGraph

  • Problematic Summer Romance by Ali Hazelwood, contemporary romance
    • I bought this because I buy everything from Ali Hazelwood. I love her!!
    • This book is ideal for readers who enjoy witty, emotionally layered romances exploring forbidden attractions and complex dynamics between contrasting characters, set against vibrant backdrops that heighten tension and self-discovery.
    • Get a copy on Bookshop.org or Libro.fm
  • Eat the Ones You Love by Sarah Maria Griffin, horror, LGBTQIA+
    • I’m on a dark cottagecore kick this year and this book fits perfectly. Also, it’s giving Little Shop of Horror vibes.
    • Eat the Ones You Love by Sarah Maria Griffin is ideal for readers who crave darkly lyrical explorations of desire, identity, and the monstrous edges of human connection, wrapped in a story where love and hunger intertwine like twisting vines.
    • Get a copy on Bookshop.org or Libro.fm
  • The Thrashers by Julie Soto, mystery, young adult
    • I’m really picky with YA but I’ve loved everything else I’ve read from Soto so I went ahead and got this one. I didn’t even read the blurb 😂
    • This book is ideal for readers who enjoy dark, fast-paced thrillers that explore the psychological complexities of teenage social hierarchies and the lingering consequences of bullying through a paranormal lens.

What I’ve Been Reading

Ok, so, I’ve been in a bit of a reading slump lately and I only finished two books but there’s still plenty to talk about!

Select a title to view on Bookshop.org or Libro.fm. Previews from The StoryGraph

  • The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes by Suzanne Collins, ★★★★☆, I have such mixed feelings about this book! It was so interesting to get a look inside the mind of a young Snow but it was strange at times to sympathise with him knowing what he’d become. But that mixed bag of feelings is a sign of an effective narrative!
    • The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes is ideal for readers who enjoy morally complex, high-stakes narratives where flawed characters navigate ruthless power struggles in a dystopian world.
    • Get a copy on Bookshop.org or Libro.fm
  • Sunrise on the Reaping by Suzanne Collins, ★★★★☆, I really enjoyed this addition to the series! I don’t feel the book was really needed but it was fascinating and heartbreaking to see how Haymitch becomes the man he is now.
    • Readers who crave intense, emotionally charged tales of resistance and survival in a merciless dystopian world will find this book gripping.
    • Get a copy on Bookshop.org or Libro.fm
  • The Roommate Risk by Talia Hibbert, ★★★★☆, Oh, so sweet and spicy! I’m about halfway through this lovely friends-to-lovers story now.
    • The Roommate Risk is ideal for readers who enjoy emotionally charged, slow-burn romance stories with complex friendships, witty banter, and themes of vulnerability and self-discovery.
    • Get a copy on Bookshop.org or Libro.fm
  • My Dark Vanessa by Kate Elizabeth Russel, ★★★★☆, I’m in the middle of a long break from this book at the moment. It’s a heavy but necessary read. Something I wish I could have read as a teenager.
    • This book is ideal for readers who appreciate emotionally intense, morally complex narratives that delve into the nuances of power dynamics and the long-term repercussions of trauma.
    • Get a copy on Bookshop.org or Libro.fm
  • What We Don’t Talk About When We Talk About Fat by Aubrey Gordon, ★★★★☆, I’m taking a little break from this book for no reason other than I’m not in the mood for non fiction right now.
    • This book is ideal for readers passionate about social justice and feminism who seek a thought-provoking exploration of systemic anti-fat bias and its intersection with personal narratives.

New in my Etsy Shop

I’ve been updating some of my older listings lately and adding more templates to them. My style has changed a bit over the years but I didn’t want to alter the kits just update them with some extra templates to suit my current style.

One of these updated kits is the Victorian Books Ephemera for Junk Journals Kit. One of my favourite kits! I just felt it needed a little bit more so I added four more pages of templates. I want to update the cover image as well but haven’t gotten around to it yet. The cover image for listings is one of the hardest things to create! They can be the deciding factor on whether a kit sells at all and I really feel they’re not my strong suit.

Victorian Books Ephemera for Junk Journaling – Vintage Book Spines Digital Download Collection

Transport your creative projects to the elegant world of Victorian literature with the Victorian Books Ephemera Collection! This distinguished digital download features authentic vintage book covers and spines that will add a touch of literary sophistication to your journaling and paper crafts.
Each piece in this collection showcases the exquisite craftsmanship and design elements characteristic of Victorian bookbinding. From the gold embossing to the rich textile covers, these ephemera pieces capture the romance and sophistication of a bygone literary era. Create stunning journal pages, tags, and embellishments that evoke the charm of antique libraries and the timeless appeal of classic literature.

March Bookish Wrap-Up: Reads, Buys & Creative Joys

Hello, friends! Another month has come to an end, which means it’s time for my monthly wrap-up.

I’ll be honest—this week has left me feeling a bit blue, so this post is lower energy than usual. You might notice I read very little in March, and I didn’t release anything new in my Etsy shop. Life has its ups and downs, and sometimes, we just need to embrace the slower moments. Lately, I’ve been frustrated with much of the online world, which led me to take a step back from my blog, YouTube, and even social media. In fact, I deleted my Instagram and deactivated my Facebook (though I kept Messenger for staying in touch with real-life friends). Meta’s ecosystem feels increasingly icky, especially with its AI-generated “influencers” and the recent controversy over stolen books. As if regular influencers weren’t hard enough to trust—now we have to worry about fake ones, too?

Okay, I’ll stop ranting—but sometimes, a little venting is necessary! I hope your March was filled with wonderful things, whether it was books, movies, games, or time with loved ones. Now, here’s a peek into my bookish (and not-so-bookish) world this month.

Books I Read

You might remember my excitement for the Irish Readathon—but then I discovered a new TV show and ended up binge-watching it instead. 🫣 This is exactly why I usually avoid readathons! I still plan to read the books I picked out… just not this month. Sometimes, we need a different form of escapism, and that’s okay.

  • So Late in the Day by Claire Keegan, ★★★★☆, Short Story, Literary
    • This book is ideal for readers who appreciate concise, emotionally charged explorations of human relationships and the consequences of personal choices.
  • Antarctica by Claire Keegan, ★★★★☆, Short Stories, Literary
    • Antarctica by Claire Keegan is ideal for readers who appreciate emotionally charged, introspective short stories that explore complex human relationships and the quiet, often haunting consequences of personal choices.

Books I Bought

I was relatively well-behaved with book purchases this month, though I did have to cancel a few pre-orders from Amazon. With the launch of Amazon.ie, I was worried about potential customs fees if I ordered from the UK site. I’d rather buy these books elsewhere, but they likely won’t be available in Irish bookshops.

  • Sunrise on the Reaping by Suzanne Collins, Dystopian, Young Adult
    • I’m sure many of us picked this one up.
    • Readers who find hope in the darkest of struggles and are drawn to stories of resilience against oppressive systems will find this book ideal.
  • The Strawberry Patch Pancake House by Laurie Gilmore, Contemporary Romance
    • I keep buying this ladies books cause of the covers and have yet to read a single one.
    • The Strawberry Patch Pancake House is ideal for readers who enjoy small-town romances blending humor and heartfelt family dynamics, with relatable characters navigating unexpected connections and second chances.
  • Final Girls by Riley Sager, Thriller
    • I had this in print but it went missing during our house move.
    • Final Girls is ideal for readers who enjoy tightly-woven psychological thrillers that delve into the resilience of trauma survivors and the unraveling of buried secrets.

What I’m Loving on Etsy

My Craft Room Journal Series from My Porch Prints

I picked up two My Craft Room kits from My Porch Prints this month to start a hobby journal. (Because, clearly, I needed another journal to work on…)

My plan? To document my experience streaming cozy games as a form of exposure therapy for social anxiety. Over the years, I’ve improved significantly—there was a time when I couldn’t leave the house without my husband or a friend—but I still have some hurdles to overcome. After stumbling across a discussion about using streaming as controlled exposure therapy, I decided to give it a try. My approach is to journal before and after short streaming sessions (no eight-hour marathons for me, thanks!).

I dipped my toes in yesterday with Planet Zoo… and promptly forgot to speak the entire time. So now, I’m brainstorming some talking points for next time!

Ideally, I’d love a gaming- or computer-themed journaling kit, but since those are hard to find, crafting-themed supplies will have to do. (Though now that I think about it, a writing-themed kit might work even better…)

Books I Read

One of my personal reading goals for this year is to branch out a bit more from the romance genre, and I’m happy to say I made some great progress with that in February. I still read a few romances, of course, but I also dipped into some horror – which I absolutely loved – and a bit of literary fiction, which I found really enjoyable and thought-provoking.

My standout reads for the month were House of Hollow by Krystal SutherlandHome Before Dark by Riley Sager, and Study for Obedience by Sarah Bernstein. These three books have really stuck with me, almost like they’ve found a little home in my mind. I have a feeling I’ll be thinking about them for a long time to come.

Books I Bought

I’m really looking forward to the Irish Readathon this year – it’s always such a lovely event. I’ve picked up a few new Irish books, along with a couple of others that sounded interesting (like Cleavage – it definitely caught my attention). I also treated myself to a new release from one of my must-read authors, as well as some rereleases of old favourites.

I was really pleased to hear that Kresley Cole is giving her Immortals After Dark series a refresh with new illustrated covers. I believe she’s made a few updates to the stories as well, which is a nice touch. These books have been around for a while now – the series timeline spans about three years in the story, but the books have been released over nearly two decades. It’s great to see them getting a bit of a refresh, and I’m looking forward to collecting the new editions and revisiting the series. It’s always nice to return to a world you’ve enjoyed so much.

Hello friends 🤎 Welcome to my monthly challenge series! Each month, I’ll be sharing my progress with you, giving my honest thoughts on what I’ve discovered, enjoyed, or even struggled with along the way.

The StoryGraph Challenge:

Every month, I’m reading at least one book for one of the StoryGraph challenges I’ve joined. It’s a great way to step outside my comfort zone and explore new genres, themes, and authors I might not have chosen otherwise. I’ll be sharing my thoughts on the book, how well it fit the challenge, and any standout moments that stuck with me.

Have you read this one or something like it? I’d love to hear what you thought, or if you have any recommendations for my next read!

  • Book Title: Home Before Dark by Riley Sager
  • Challenge Prompt: The StoryGraph Onboarding Challenge – Read a book published between 2010-2020 that fits your reader profile but excludes your most-read genre.
  • Review: My most-read genre is romance, but dark and eerie books are also part of my reader profile, so Home Before Dark by Riley Sager was a perfect choice for this prompt. I’m a huge fan of horror and thriller films, and I’ve been wanting to dive into more books from these genres—so I was excited to pick this one up. And wow, I absolutely loved it! This was my first Riley Sager book, so I wasn’t prepared for just how twisty the story would be. Maybe that’s the norm for them, but for me, it was a wild ride! Even after the big reveal, I’m still questioning certain moments and piecing things together in my head.
  • Rating: ★★★★★
  • Takeaway: I’ve been having such a great time with The StoryGraph Onboarding Challenge—so much so that I’m seriously considering doing it again this year! It’s been a fantastic way to explore The StoryGraph’s features and, more importantly, discover some incredible books I might not have picked up otherwise.

Game Quest:

My game library is packed with titles I’ve never played—some have been waiting for years! So, I’m making it a goal to pick one each month and finally give it a go. I’ll share my first impressions, how far I got, and whether it lived up to the hype.

Have you played this game before? Drop me a comment with your tips or thoughts, and let me know what I should play next!

  • Game Title: Behind the Frame
  • Platform: Steam on PC
  • Genre: Puzzle, Wholesome
  • First Impressions: The artwork is beautiful, which feels so fitting for a game centred around artists. The puzzles were fairly simple, but that wasn’t really the main focus—it was all about the storytelling and the connection between the two characters.
  • Progress: I completed the game in just over two hours (possibly even less, since I left it running when my in-laws visited). I spread it out over two days, but it’s short enough to finish in one sitting.
  • Overall Experience: A beautifully crafted and emotional experience that really stuck with me. The story was heartfelt, and the visuals were gorgeous—but I only wish it had been longer!

Film Focus:

Each month, I’m diving into a different film genre with a movie I’ve never seen before. I’m skipping the big blockbusters and mainstream hits in search of hidden gems—whether it’s an underrated indie or a forgotten classic. I’ll be sharing my thoughts on the story, performances, and what made the film stand out.

Know of any underrated films I should check out? I’m always on the lookout for recommendations, so feel free to share your favourites for next month!

  • Movie Title: Small Things Like These
  • Genre: Historical Drama
  • Why This Genre: Historical dramas aren’t usually my thing—they tend to be a bit too heavy and depressing for my taste.
  • Review: I chose this film because it was set and filmed in my hometown, which made it feel even more personal. Seeing familiar locations, like the setting for the laundry (which also serves as the setting for the school where the main character’s daughters go), was surreal—especially since that’s the school I actually attended. As for the film itself, it was deeply emotional but incredibly well done. I appreciated how the story centred on Murphy’s character and explored how Ireland’s treatment of women also impacted men. The Magdalene laundries were a horrific chapter in Irish history, and while it’s heartbreaking to watch, films like this are important reminders of the past.
  • Rating: ★★★★☆
  • Genre Reflection: Historical dramas still aren’t my thing, but I’m glad I watched this one. It was a powerful film, and despite my usual reservations about the genre, it left a lasting impact.

In The Kitchen:

Each month, I’m challenging myself to try a new recipe, finally putting my collection of bookmarked cookbooks to good use! I’ll share how the cooking process went, our honest thoughts on the flavour, and whether it’s a dish worth making again.

Do you have any go-to recipes for picky eaters? Let me know—I’m always on the lookout for something new to try, and I might just give it a go in a future post!

  • Recipe: Naan (sort of)
  • Source: I say “sort of” because I didn’t actually use a traditional naan recipe. Instead, I used the basic bread dough recipe from my bread machine, set it to the dough cycle, and then rolled out portions by hand. It’s not technically naan, but it worked surprisingly well!
  • Cooking Experience: Super easy, especially with the bread machine doing all the mixing and kneading for me. The trickiest part was rolling them into a decent shape—I ended up making them a bit smaller than intended, but since they were quite filling, it actually worked out fine.
  • Taste Test: Delicious! That said, I did have my pan a little too hot at first, so the first few puffed up like pita bread. Still, they tasted great, and I’ll definitely be making them again. They freeze really well, so it’s handy to have a batch ready for curries—or even for making mini pizzas.
  • Recipe Rating: ★★★★☆ It loses a star because, let’s be honest, it’s not really naan—but it’s a solid alternative!

Books I Read | Fantasy, Romance, & History

It was a bit of a slow start to the year but I did enjoy some of the books I read.

Select a title to wishlist on Amazon.

  • A Monsoon Rising by Thea Guanzon, ★★★★☆, started in December but finished in January. Possibly my favourite romantasy series!
  • A Deal with the Elf King by Elise Kova, ★★☆☆☆, I feel like if McDonald’s started producing romantasy books, they’d release this.
  • Beauty in Autumn by Ruby Dixon, ★★☆☆☆, a very short smutty Beauty and the Beast retelling. I prefer Dixon’s longer stories.
  • Bright I Burn by Molly Aitken, ★★☆☆☆, this is a tough one to review. I’m interested in Alice Kyteler but didn’t gel with Aitken’s voice.
  • Two Can Play by Ali Hazelwood, ★★★★★, I AM OBSESSED WITH ALI HAZELWOOD!!!
  • Your Pretty Little Heart and more fanfics by Ever-So-Reylo (Ali Hazelwood), ★★★★☆, I AM OBSESSED WITH ALI HAZELWOOD!!!
  • Old Ireland in Colour 2 by John Breslin and Sarah-Anne Buckley, ★★★★★, a fabulous collection of historical photos. Seeing them colourised really brings them to life and makes it easier to make out details.

Books I Bought

Quite proud of myself for not buying too much this month.

This year, I’m diving headfirst into a set of fun and personal challenges that I’ve been meaning to tackle for ages—whether it’s working through my massive backlog of games, ticking off books from my StoryGraph reading challenges, watching films from different genres, or trying new recipes (with a focus on meat dishes, as I’m not the best at those!). Each month, I’ll be sharing my progress with you, giving my honest thoughts on what I’ve discovered, enjoyed, or even struggled with along the way.

The StoryGraph Challenge:

Each month, I’m tackling at least one book from one of the StoryGraph reading challenges I’ve signed up for. These challenges are such a fun way to push myself into new genres, themes, and authors I might not have picked up otherwise. I’ll be sharing my thoughts on the book, whether it lived up to the challenge, and any key takeaways that stood out for me.

Have you read this one or something like it? I’d love to hear what you thought, or if you have any recommendations for my next read!

  • Book Title: Old Ireland in Colour 2 by John Breslin and Sarah-Anne Buckley
  • Challenge Prompt: The StoryGraph’s Onboarding Challenge 2025 – Read a book in your least-read genre. – History
  • Review: This was a gift from my mother-in-law a few Christmases ago and I’m ashamed it took me so long to read it. I flipped through all of the wonderful photographs but never actually read it. Old Ireland in Colour is such a fascinating and illuminating look into the history of the Irish people. There’s a big difference between knowing that people went through certain things and seeing a glimpse of how they actually lived. Highly recommend it and I’m so happy this Storygraph challenge gave me the nudge to read it.
  • Rating: ★★★★★
  • Takeaway: If you’re interested in Ireland or history or love interesting coffee table books, you should pick this up. Old Ireland in Colour 3 is actually coming soon. It would make a wonderful gift.

Game Quest:

I’ve got a library full of games I’ve never played—some of them have been sitting there for ages! So, I’m making it my mission to pick one each month and finally give it a go. I’ll share my first impressions, how much I managed to play, and whether or not it lived up to the hype. It’s been a long time coming, but I’m excited to dive into some of these hidden gems and share my thoughts with you.

Have you played this game before? Drop me a comment with your tips or thoughts, and let me know what I should play next!

  • Game Title: Wylde Flowers
  • Platform: PC and Steamdeck
  • Genre: Cozy Farming and Life Sim
  • First Impressions: I’m obsessed!
  • Progress: I started playing this month and I’m 40+ hours in.
  • Overall Experience: Wylde Flowers has all the elements of a farming life sim we know and love but with magic (although to be fair, Stardew Valley has magic) and much more focus on the character story. It’s even fully voice acted which was such a nice touch along with the beautiful art style.

Film Focus:

Every month, I’m exploring a different film genre with a movie I’ve never seen before. I’m steering clear of blockbusters and anything too mainstream, hoping to discover some hidden gems. Whether it’s a quirky indie film or something old but overlooked, I’ll be sharing my thoughts on the story, the performances, and how it compares to other films in the genre.

Know of any underrated films I should check out? I’m always on the lookout for recommendations, so feel free to share your favourites for next month!

  • Movie Title: Flow
  • Genre: Animation, Indie
  • Why This Genre: I want to explore more indie animation cause I’m a Disney nut and I don’t think it’s fair to give all the attention to such a big company.
  • Review: This was so so beautiful! My only issue (or not really an issue) was that my cats became a bit distressed when the cat in the movie was scared. They started running around looking for the danger, but they were fine after a moment. They seemed to realise it was coming from the TV after a while. Anyway, this movie is beautiful and sweet and heartwarming and just lovely and really worth watching.
  • Rating: ★★★★★
  • Genre Reflection: I’m excited to explore more indie movies not just animation. There are a few Irish films I’d like to check out.

In The Kitchen:

I’ve always found cooking meat dishes a bit tricky, especially since I used to be vegetarian. On top of that, my husband is incredibly picky—if it’s not pizza, he’s not interested! So, each month I’m challenging myself to try a new recipe, focusing on meat-based dishes that’ll hopefully win him over. I’ll let you know how the cooking went, what we thought of the taste, and whether or not it’s something I’ll make again.

Do you have any go-to recipes for picky eaters? Let me know—I’m always on the lookout for something new to try, and I might just give it a go in a future post!

  • Recipe: Chicken and Butternut Squash Curry with Rice
  • Source: No source. I just wanted to make something tasty with butternut squash
  • Cooking Experience: I diced and roasted the butternut squash in olive oil, which was a bit annoying. I forgot how difficult it is to dice a butternut squash. It was worth it, though, because I was able to add squash to this curry, soup, and lasagne.
  • Taste Test: I thought this was absolutely delicious! My husband wasn’t a fan but he doesn’t like curry so it probably wasn’t the best place to start 😅
  • Recipe Rating: ★★★★★

Books I Read

Those star ratings might make it seem like I didn’t enjoy my reading much this month, but honestly, that couldn’t be further from the truth! Sure, a few of the novellas I read were just okay, and I finally wrapped up a book I’d set aside in 2023. But let me tell you, the books I gave five stars in November? They’re the kind that are going to stay with me forever.

Take My Sister, the Serial Killer by Oyinkan Braithwaite, for example. What an absolutely captivating read! It’s such a brilliant, sharp exploration of human behaviour—darkly funny, chilling, and deeply thought-provoking all at once. I couldn’t put it down.

And then there’s The Hurricane Wars by Thea Guanzon. Oh, where do I even begin? It’s the kind of high-stakes fantasy that completely sweeps you away. I am obsessed. The world-building, the tension, the drama—it’s everything I want from a fantasy series and more. I’m already counting down the days until I can get my hands on the next book.

So yes, while not every read this month was a knockout, the ones that shone? They really shone.

Select a title to wishlist on Amazon.

Books I Bought

I was actually pretty well-behaved with my book buying in November—honestly, I’m quite proud of myself! I only bought five books outright, which isn’t too bad at all. The other five? Well, they’re part of a collection available through Amazon Prime Reading, so they were essentially free.

As for the books I picked up, most of them came from browsing my recommendations on StoryGraph. I also couldn’t resist having a nosy at the Goodreads Choice Awards nominees this year, which, let’s be real, always tempts me into adding a few more titles to my TBR pile. December’s looking like it’s going to be a big book-buying month too—I can already feel it. There’s just something about this time of year that feels perfect for stocking up on new reads. ‘Tis the season, after all!

New in my Etsy Shop: Buy Together & Save on Select Kits

I really wish I could tell you I’ve added a brand-new kit to the shop this month, but the truth is, I just haven’t had the time to create one. Life’s been a bit hectic! But don’t worry—it doesn’t mean I’ve got nothing exciting for you.

This month, I’ve put together several Buy Together & Save bundles featuring kits that pair beautifully together. One of my favourites is the Antique Maps of Ireland bundle. It’s packed with all the journal papers and ephemera you could possibly need to create a stunning vintage-style journal inspired by Irish history. The maps, the textures, the overall vibe—it’s perfect for bringing a little bit of history to life on your pages.

In fact, I’m currently using these kits myself to create an Irish Family History journal, and I’m absolutely loving how it’s coming together. Whether you’re into genealogy, love a good vintage aesthetic, or just fancy a creative project, this bundle has you covered!
