Canyon Coffee makes its Netflix debut.
Plus Tondo's expansion, Camel's rebrand, and a really great sublet.
Happy Monday, everyone. I’m back in LA and feeling recharged after a great trip to Paris and Amsterdam. I’ll share some highlights from the trip on Wednesday, but for now rest assured I walked a lot, ate some incredible meals, discovered the Dutch equivalent of Capri Club, and said It’s so beautiful! exactly 20,000 times.
In today’s letter, I can finally confirm a scoop I’d heard whispered about over the past week or so — Canyon Coffee is teaming up with Netflix.

SCOOP: Canyon Coffee makes its Netflix debut.
The time has finally come — Canyon Coffee is no longer a one-location business. Though rumors of a New York expansion have floated for some time, Echo Park’s most talked-about coffee shop has quietly debuted a second LA location instead, taking over the ground-floor coffee bar at Netflix’s headquarters in Hollywood. In what’s being positioned as a pop-up (but is clearly a test run for permanent residency), Canyon will be open Monday through Thursday at the streaming behemoth’s Sunset Boulevard mothership.
Several of Canyon’s long-time baristas have moved to the Netflix location full-time, so if you haven’t seen your favorite in a while…that’s probably where they are. And unfortunately, you won’t be able to visit them — the new outpost is for Netflix employees and invited guests only.
I’m always intrigued by the vast chasm between Canyon’s weekday regulars and the hordes of Mid-City and west side residents who flock in on the weekends to be a part of something. The aesthetic is similar (Wales Bonner, Onitsuka Tiger), but the approach is all new. One has to wonder how the vibe will translate when the paneled walls are subbed for Netflix’s Emmy display and the vintage-clad journal kings become…harried creative execs in business casual.
🍽️ And now for some table scraps…
Café Tondo is expanding to morning service. You can now get breakfast and coffee at the summer’s hottest new spot. I’ll be honest — I’ve heard mixed things about the food so far, but some of that can probably be chalked up to working out the post-opening kinks. I’ll try the breakfast soon and report back.
Mark Zuckerberg has been running an illegal private school out of a house he owns in Palo Alto’s Crescent Park neighborhood. In addition to running the school (catering to Mark’s two children and twelve of their very privileged friends), Mark’s also snapped up at least eleven homes in the historically quiet neighborhood, razing several of them, building massive underground bunkers, and generally making life extremely inconvenient for longtime residents.
Obet & Del’s has soft-opened its second location in Mount Washington.
Gap’s cropped tees are on sale for $35. I bought two of them yesterday. If you use the discount code ADDON it’ll give you an additional 20% off. Do with that what you will. (I’m not using affiliate links here but I probably should be.)
I keep going back to this photo of Andrew Garfield in costume as Sam Altman on the set of Luca Guadagnino’s Artificial.
Camel Coffee split from its Korean ownership group — and rebranded as Handles. I’ve been to Camel a grand total of two times (one of which was during the intermission of The Brutalist at the Vista), but thoroughly enjoyed both visits. I’d probably go more if it was a) on my daily route and b) not quite as mobbed. I like the Handles rebrand, and I’m extremely impressed that the owners (now all local) managed to flip the space in just one day.
The Tesla Diner quietly cut most of its menu. I don’t know a single person who’s gone, so.…this checks out.
Recent college graduates with computer science degrees are working fast food jobs instead of coding. Big Tech is….not hiring. Is anyone?
From the tip line — if you’ve ever dreamed of living at the iconic Los Feliz Towers, here’s your chance. Rag reader Bilal is subletting his fully-furnished two-bedroom corner unit at the midcentury landmark from 9/1 through 5/31. There’s a balcony, sweeping views, and automated blinds, which are honestly the ultimate luxury. The building is walkable to everything on Hillhurst and includes a pool, gym, 24-hour doorman, and gardens by the great people at Terremoto. It’s yours for $4,500/month, email bilal.qureshi.a@gmail.com if you’re interested.

If you’re looking for something a little more permanent, here’s a very cute cottage in Montecito Heights for $899k. Tiny footprint, great vibes.
And if you need a few more bedrooms, this place in Angelino Heights might do the trick. I really love Angelino Heights, and Kensington is one of the best streets in the neighborhood. There are a lot of different styles happening at this one, but it sort of works?

Handles (coffee) and Handel’s (ice cream) within blocks of each other is so funny to me
900k for 895sq/ft in Montecito Heights, You've got to be kidding...
