The Ubuntu Discourse is a busy place just like the community it represents! With all the discussions, activities and project news shared every week, it’s easy to miss out on something important. Discourse has a cool feature called the “Weekly Digest” that allows you to get the top topics from across the site sent straight to your inbox every week.
This is an opt-in email that all users can sign up for, but before we enabled this feature, we wanted to ask the users here if they would find value in it and how they currently get their Ubuntu ecosystem news.

Would you sign up for an Ubuntu Discourse Weekly Digest email?
I sort of gave up on email. It just takes too much cognitive load and time to sift through all the junk. The ‘Tat’ to ‘Value’ ratio is too low. It’s a shame because a Weekly Digest / Newsletter is a superb idea. I just need another mechanism to draw my attention to it.
I think Weekly Digest Email’s most important role for me is that remind me Ubuntu Wallpaper Competition starts and guess Ubuntu next version’s mascot.
I hope that will come true.
Unless something has changed, this automatic digest is sent to a user only when they don’t log in for a week (or the time they configure in their preferences), and it is customized for each user, based on their activity and preferences.
I mean, I love these digests, they are especially useful for communities that you don’t follow on a daily basis. But in the way the question is posed, it gives the impression that if you opt in, you will get the automatic digest every week.
The purpose of this topic was to get a general sense of whether our community might be interested in a regular weekly email with interesting and useful information.
We are now looking at how we can reach the broader, active community so stay tuned for more information here.
