Eddie Redmayne On ‘The Day Of The Jackal’, Why He Chose To Play An Assassin In His First TV Series & His Award-Winning Career From Stephen Hawking To ‘Cabaret’ – The Actor’s Side

Eddie Redmayne video interview

Eddie Redmayne’s got an Oscar for Best Actor in The Theory of Everything. He has a Tony, a Golden Globe, a BAFTA and two Oliviers, including one most recently for his role in the London and Broadway productions of Cabaret: Live at the Kit Kat Club, among other honors. Now he may be adding an Emmy to that list for his role as the Jackal in the Peacock series The Day of the Jackal, which follows the exploits of a trained assassin and is based on Frederick Forsythe’s best seller and the 1973 Fred Zinnemann movie that starred Edward Fox. It already has been renewed for a second season and serves as the perfect vehicle for the versatile star’s many talents.

Redmayne is also a producer on the show and so far also has received Golden Globe, Critics Choice and SAG nominations for a demanding role in which he had to learn different languages including German and French, trained extensively with guns, transformed into many different disguises and in some instances applied his own prosthetics on screen, and also served as a kind of fashion plate as well. That last part is probably the easiest for Redmayne, who regularly makes the best-dressed lists.

After his successful stage and movie outings, including a second Oscar nomination for playing the trans title role of The Danish Girl, his Fantastic Beasts franchise films and many other roles on the silver screen, including of course, the Stephen Hawking biopic The Theory of Everything, Redmayne joins me for this week’s episode of my Deadline video series The Actor’s Side to talk about all of it and especially the reasons he chose to dive into a television series.
