ChloĆ« Sevigny On A Wild Hollywood Ride From ‘Boys Don’t Cry’ To ‘Big Love’ To Kitty Menendez And The Emmys – The Actor’s Side

Chloƫ Sevigny video interview

If you ask me Chloe Sevigny has one of the most intriguing movie careers of any of her contemporaries. The star who made a big splash and won an Oscar nomination as Lana Tisdel in Boys Don’t Cry and later took a Golden Globe for the HBO series, Big Love, has now received her first Emmy nomination as Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited Series, Anthology or TV Movie for playing Kitty Menendez, mother of the infamous Mendendez brothers, in Netflix’s Monsters: The Kyle And Erik Menendez Story.

She always seems to be busy and has no doubt always been so in an eclectic career with many highlights, none more than now however. She’s on a roll, having just come off Monsters producer Ryan Murphy’s Feud: Capote vs. The Swans , and a starring role in the independent feature remake of Bonjour Tristesse. You’ll also be able to see her in After The Hunt, the latest from Luca Guadagnino starring Julia Roberts and Ayo Edebiri, which premieres at the Venice Film Festival, as well as another limited series with Jennifer Garner and Regina Hall, Five Star Weekend.

Related Stories

We talk about all of this outstanding work, including her roles in American Horror Story also for Murphy, The Dead Don’t Die, and early offbeat but memorable films like Kids and Gummo for Harmony Korine in the 90’s, her modeling days, her theatrical ambitions early on, and of course the tricky challenge of playing Kitty in the controversial Menendez story which has become a cultural touchstone being responsible for reigniting interest in the brothers and possibly getting them out of prison after all this time. It certainly has lit a fire that is still burning. No matter what happens there, her portrayal of Kitty opposite Javier Bardem’s also-nominated turn as Jose Menendez is a career highpoint in the limited series that looks at the characters from different POV’s and tries to bring a level of humanity into the horrific story of abuse and murder among other things.
