‘Take Ten’: ‘Severance’s Britt Lower Talks Future Hopes For Helly & Mark And Her Upcoming Role In Harlan Coben Series ‘I Will Find You’

Britt Lower

In the Take Ten hot seat this week is Emmy-nominated Severance star Britt Lower.

During her ten-minute round of quick-fire questions, Lower addressed a number of burning issues, such as who she would pick for her Severance basketball team (Gwendoline Christie would be MVP and Adam Scott would be out), how she enjoys keeping track of the her castmates’ snack preferences, and which Severance in-office game she wishes she could bring into real life.

In Severance, Lower stars as both Helly R and Helena — one woman mentally severed by the corporation Lumon into two personas, each unaware of the other. Helly roams the office halls of Lumon, unable to leave, and is known as an “innie,” while her “outie” lives a very different existence. However, in Season 2 of the show, the innie/outie lines become blurred, the innies fight back against Lumon, and Helly and Mark (Scott) discover the depth of their feelings for each other.

In the video interview, Lower mulls over what she herself would be doing if she lived her best innie life — and it may not be the answer you’d expect. “Well innie life means work life,” she says, “so, if I were living my best work life … I love my job as an actor, but I also really love organizing my sock drawer, so I think I would be a good innie who just organized things. I’m really in my happy place, just pouring out a bag and sorting through it.”

She also discusses her hopes for the future of Helly and Mark’s relationship, and things she would personally change about Severance, which mostly center around her wish that the innie characters were allowed to sometimes wear pajamas and take naps. “I love taking naps!” she laughs.

Lower also revealed a favorite scene she shot which ended up on the cutting room floor. “There was a beautiful scene in episode 204 where Zach Cherry, as Dylan, is explaining how he doesn’t like outside, and it started snowing while we were filming that scene. It was really beautiful. It’s not in the show.”

Lower also thinks that if Helly had hobbies, she would be an expert in a somewhat unusual sport. “I don’t know why this came to mind,” she says, “but I think she would do shot put in track. You know, the one where they throw the heavy thing?”

While Lower remained tight-lipped on any Severance Season 3 details, she did get into her upcoming role in new Harlan Coben adaptation I Will Find You, which is due to debut on Netflix next year. In the limited series, Lower stars as journalist Rachel Mills, alongside Sam Worthington, Milo Ventimiglia, Erin Richards and Logan Browning. When Rachel discovers a secret, she tries to turn it into the story that will save her career. Lower said she had observed journalists (like the Deadline team) in preparation for the role.

Lower is also set to star alongside Jamie Lee Curtis in upcoming horror film Sender, produced by Curtis and directed by Russell Goldman.
