She appeared in Spy Kids 3-D; Game Over (2003) and she guest-starred in The Suite Life of Zack and Cody. She hit it big when she appeared as Alex Russo in Wizards of Waverly Place which ran from 2007 to 2012. She will be involved in the spinoff series at Disney: Wizards Beyond Waverly Place.
She landed a lead role alongside Joey King in the film adaptation of Ramona and Beezus (2010) based on the book by Beverly Cleary, and she appeared in Monte Carlo (2011) alongside Leighton Meester and Kate Cassidy. She played a college student in Florida in Spring Breakers (2012), and she has also lent her voice to films like Horton Hears a Who! (2008), the Hotel Transylvania franchise and Dolittle (2020).
She appeared as Chan in Woody Allen’s A Rainy Day in New York (2019), and she returned to television in Only Murders in the Building, the first season of which launched in 2021. She stars alongside Martin Short and Steve Martin, and the show just launched its fourth season. Gomez can next be seen as Jessi in Emilia Pérez, and she has signed on to portray Linda Ronstadt in a biopic directed by David O. Russell.
Gomez is also a pop vocalist, and she sang the theme song to Wizards of Waverly Place in addition to later performing the opening track to Disney Channel’s Shake It Up starring Zendaya and Bella Thorne. Her solo albums include “Stars Dance” (2012), “Revival” (2015) and “Rare” (2020) among countless singles as the frontwoman of Selena Gomez & the Scene: like “Round & Round,” “Naturally,” “A Year Without Rain,” “Who Says?” “Come and Get It” and “Love You Like a Love Song.” The group released three albums: “Kiss & Tell” (2009), “A Year Without Rain” (2010) and “When the Sun Goes Down” (2011).
Gomez is a big advocate for mental health, as she herself battled depression and anxiety before revealing a bipolar diagnosis in 2020. In 2015, she was diagnosed with lupus, and she received a kidney transplant in 2017. In the documentary, Selena Gomez: My Mind and Me, the singer and actress shines a light on the important topic of mental health.
Gomez dated singer-songwriter Justin Bieber for a while, and now she married record producer and songwriter Benny Blanco in late September 2025.
