Alex Warren was all set to celebrate his first Best New Artist Grammy award nomination last night, but his echoey, off-beat performance has made all the news, and now the singer is letting us know exactly what he was hearing in his in-ear devices.
Warren began his performance of his hit “Ordinary” at a concession stand in Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles when, as he proceeded to walk, while singing, through the venue’s audience section, he began fiddling with his ear device.
As he tore the device out of his ear, Warren seemed to fall a beat or two behind his back-up singers.
And if the sound in the hall seemed more than a little echo-laden, the sound in Warren’s hears was so much worse. In an Instagram post today, Warren plays audio of the jumble he was hearing.
The new video shows Warren with a resigned grin on his face before he buries his face in his hands and, finally, mouths a silent scream of frustration.
The IG post is captioned, “When you’re performing at the Grammys and all you hear is this in your ears…This would only happen to me…”
Warren lost the Best New Artist Grammy to British singer-songwriter Olivia Dean.

We don’t know if any of the other artists in this medley ran into the similar issues, since they did their job well.
