“Guys, this is like Avatar,” Mabel says.
Scientist: “This is nothing like Avatar!”
Here is the first trailer for Hoppers, the latest Pixar toon from Disney, which hits theaters next year. Check it out above.
In the pic from We Bare Bears helmer Daniel Chong, science has found a way to “hop” human consciousness into lifelike robotic animals, allowing people to communicate with animals as animals. Using the new technology, Mabel (Piper Curda) will uncover mysteries within the animal world that are beyond anything she could have imagined.
Mabel “hops” into the life of a beaver, and along the way she learns about dragonfly dudes, vibing birds, “pond rules” — eat, be eaten, make it “weird” and get off the menu — and the potential pitfalls of upsetting the natural order.
“What if we could understand and communicate with the animal world?” Chong asks in the press notes. “Our main character, Mabel, gets to discover the animal kingdom as an animal, which can be weird and often hilarious. Mabel undercover in the animal world leads to a wild, rollercoaster ride of a movie, with all the heart you expect from a classic Pixar film.”
The voice cast also includes the likes of Bobby Moynihan and Jon Hamm.
It’s been feast or famine for Pixar during the past two years. In 2024, Inside Out 2 became the highest-grossing animated film ever, and No. 11 among all movies, with just short of $1.7 billion worldwide. But this summer’s $150 million Elio drew the lowest opening in the studio’s history. Hoppers is out to make amends for that when it opens March 6.
Here is the film’s first trailer from mid-July, followed by the key art:
I’m excited for this film. It looks interesting and fun. The Elio trailer never grabbed me but this one does.
This looks nothing like The Wild Robot (which I still feel was totally robbed at the Oscars).
Not a terrible trailer, but I still think Pixar’s animation style nowadays is ugly compared to earlier films, and Dreamworks’ more recent efforts.
