Ahead of its Season 3 premiere, the end is already in sight for Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. Paramount+ announced today it has renewed the series for a fifth and final six-episode season. Production will begin on Season 5 later this year.
The third season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is set to premiere with two episodes on Thursday, July 17 on Paramount+ in the U.S. Following the premiere, new episodes will drop weekly on Thursdays, with the season finale on Thursday, September 11. It was previously announced that the series had been renewed for a fourth season, which is currently in production.
“From the very beginning, Strange New Worlds set out to honor what Star Trek has always stood for — boundless curiosity, hope and the belief that a better future is possible,” said executive producers Akiva Goldsman, Henry Alonso Myers and Alex Kurtzman. “We’re deeply grateful to Paramount+ for the chance to complete our five-season mission, just as we envisioned it, alongside our extraordinary cast and crew. And to the passionate fans who’ve boldly joined us on this journey — THANK YOU. With three more spectacular seasons ahead for you to see and enjoy, this adventure is far from over.”

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is available to stream exclusively on Paramount+ in the U.S., the UK, Latin America, Australia, Italy, France, Germany, Switzerland, Austria and Japan. Paramount needs to end dealing with Alex Kurtzman and Akiva Goldsman. They’ve utterly ruined the once storied (and lucrative) franchise. Seriously, how any network executive can watch Section 31 and think to themselves, “Oh yeah, these guys are great at helming this franchise…” is beyond me. So many more talented producers out there could be making this franchise a cash cow again. It’s ludicrous that they maintain the status quo by churning out bad product after bad product to ever dwindling audiences.
SNW is by far the best Star Trek in the last 20 years or more. I guess five seasons is decent, but I had hoped that this series would live long and prosper.
Can they add more episodes to the season order because Star Trek: Discovery, an inferior show, was given much longer seasons?
I don’t understand this. It’s such a good show. I guess it was too expensive to keep doing it.
They are limited by the fact Captain Kirk is supposed to take over for Pike, but they should make it up to us by not going a puny 6 episode 5th season and giving us a 20 episode 5th season in 2 drops of 10.
I realize that Paramount is on the brink of bankruptcy, but canceling Star Trek: Lower Decks was a brutal business decision.
