Wrexham AFC recently secured promotion to the English Championship, the second tier of British soccer, one step away from the riches of the Premier League.
That battle to eventually compete against the likes of Premier League champions Liverpool and others including Manchester City will be documented in another season of Welcome to Wrexham after FX renewed the sports docuseries for a fifth season.
Wrexham AFC have secured three consecutive promotions since Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney bought the club for just £2M in February 2021. The club received investment – reported to be just under £500M – in October from the Allyn family, which will allow them to spend big on players as they seek one more promotion.
The series, which is airing its fourth season, is produced by More Better Productions, Maximum Effort, 3 Arts Entertainment and Boardwalk Pictures and exec produced by McElhenney, Reynolds, Josh Drisko, Bryan Rowland, Jeff Luini, Ker, Nick Frenkel, George Dewey, Andrew Fried, Dane Lillegard, Sarina Roma, and Andy Thomas.

Elsewhere, Necaxa, another sports docuseries exec produced by McElhenney and Reynolds as well as Eva Longoria, who own stakes in the club, will launch on the network this summer.
The series follows Mexico’s Club Necaxa, who were relocated to Aguascalientes, a working-class city known as the “land of good people,” after struggling for several seasons in their original home in bustling Mexico City.
Necaxa also will air on Disney+ Latin America. It is produced by Hyphenate Media Group, More Better Productions, Maximum Effort and 3 Arts Entertainment and exec produced by Longoria, Reynolds, McElhenney, Cris Abrego, Rachelle Mendez, Nick Frenkel, Jackie Cohn, George Dewey, Alex Fumero and Diana E. Gonzales.
“Rob and Ryan helped Wrexham AFC become one of the greatest sports stories of our time and what has happened in Wrexham, Wales is truly magical. With Eva Longoria, they’re now teaming to support the dreams and aspirations of the Necaxa fans and Aguascalientes community too,” said Nick Grad, President, FX Entertainment. “As we begin the journey alongside our partners at Disney+ Latin America with Necaxa this summer, everyone is excited to see them bring the same love and support to Mexico that they’ll be bringing to the fifth season of Welcome to Wrexham as the Club heads into the Championship, the next chapter of its fairytale journey.”
The only reality here is Wrexham is about to get destroyed in the Championship.
