The Hallmark Channel has renewed The Chicken Sisters for a second season.
Production begins today in Vancouver on the series that stars Schuyler Fisk (Amanda), Genevieve Angelson (Mae), Lea Thompson (Nancy) and Wendie Malick (Gus). The series about a restaurant rivalry is an adaptation of KJ Dell’Antonia’s novel of the same name and was a Reese Witherspoon book club selection.
David James Elliott (JAG) is joining the series in a recurring role. He plays someone who shows up to town from Gus’ past.
For Season 2, Erin Gibson (Throwing Shade) was upped from the writers room to take over as showrunner and EP.

“We’re grateful to Annie Mebane for creating the series for television and expertly bringing to life the town of Merinac and its colorful characters in K.J. Dell’Antonia’s beloved book,” began Samantha DiPippo, Senior Vice President, Programming, Hallmark Media. “The show is in great hands with Erin Gibson taking the reins as showrunner this season and we know that our stellar cast led by Schuyler Fisk, Genevieve Angelson, Lea Thompson and Wendie Malick will serve up something special for viewers.”

In the season finale that streamed on Hallmark+, Amanda (Fisk) joined forces with her sister Mae (Angelson), their mother Gus (Malick) and her mother-in-law Nancy (Thompson) to face off against her husband Frank Jr. (James Kot of Virgin River) in the final Kitchen Clash showdown, leaving him to fly solo. Deemed the underdog by Mr. Chicken (Clifton Murray of Painkiller Jane), a successful restaurant chain owner tasked with casting the deciding vote, Frank Jr. was controversially crowned the winner.
The second season follows Amanda, Mae, Nancy and Gus as they use The Chicken Sisters restaurant to officially put a generations-long feud to rest, while Frank Jr. begins another by opening a Mr. Chicken’s Cluckery on Merinac’s Main Street.
Season 1 debuted last year exclusively on Hallmark+, where it’s available, and recently made its Hallmark Channel premiere on March 30. It will continue through May 18.
The Chicken Sisters is from Fox Entertainment Studios in association with Lighthouse Pictures and Busy B Entertainment. Erin Gibson, Bradley Gardner, Jameson Parker, Gemma Martini, Larry Grimaldi, Ani Kevork, Hannah Pillemer and Fernando Szew are executive producers.
I got halfway through the first episode and broke all speed records to turn it off! I thought the script was asinine and the acting atrocious. And I was really shocked that Hallmark would put such a stupidly produced movie on its network. Now I’m doubly shocked to see that Hallmark has signed off on a second year. Hallmark management has sure turned for the worse.
So I guess all of our negative reviews do not matter, it’s being renewed and wasting viewers
