Nonprofit and hyperlocal news organizations are welcome to republish CT Mirror stories and opinion pieces at no charge.  If you do republish CT Mirror content we ask that you follow a few guidelines:

  1. You must use the HTML code (including the Canonical code) provided on the previous page.
  2. We ask you to include our canonical URL on your page to help us preserve our search ranking.
  3. You may make these changes to our story:
  4. Changes to conform with your in-house style (for example, using “Stamford, Conn” instead of “Stamford, CT”
  5. Date indicators (“yesterday” to “last week,” for example) and orientation language to account for the time of republication and your readership’s location.
  6. You must include a byline, ideally in this format: “by Ginny Monk, CT Mirror.”
  7. If you use CT Mirror story art (e.g., photos, illustrations, graphics):
  8. You may only publish photos from CT Mirror stories that are CT Mirror original photos or that are clearly from public sources.
  9. You may only publish CT Mirror story art in the CT Mirror story or stories in which that art appeared. You may not publish these elements other stories you publish.
  10. Republished story art must be accompanied by its original caption and credit.
  11. All CT Mirror content that is republished in print or online must contain this text at the top or bottom of the story: “This story was originally published by The Connecticut Mirror (www.CTMirror.org).”

  13. The text “www.CTMirror.org” in the credit line described above must be hyperlinked to the story’s original publication page on CTMirror.org
  14. You must include the links from the original CT Mirror story. You may not add links to the story.
  15. You can easily republish CT Mirror content by copying the HTML snippet provided on the previous page and publishing it as is on your website. This HTML snippet includes all text formatting, photographs, data visualizations , and hyperlinks, the author byline, and credit to CT Mirror. You will need to remove any photographs that you don’t have permission to use, as described above. If something is incompatible with your CMS, let us know if you remove it.
  16. The HTML snippet also includes a 1 x 1 pixel to help us measure the reach and understand the impact of our stories. This tracker captures view counts and helps us break them down by date and your site’s domain. No other information is gathered. You may not remove this pixel. Permission to republish CT Mirror content is conditioned upon your including this pixel so we can track number of users.
  17. Access to CT Mirror content that you republish must remain free. You may not sell access to this article, place it behind a paywall, or grant downstream publication rights to other publishers.
  18. If you share the story on social media, please mention @CTMirror (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn)
  19. Permission to publish CT Mirror content does not apply to stories that are classified as “Partner Content” on our site. These are stories that are published by third-party newsrooms such as CT Public, WSHU, New Haven Independent, Propublica, The 19th, Capital B, Grist, or Stateline. If you want to republish “Partner Content” stories you will need to seek permission to do so directly from the original publishers.
  20. All digitally republished CT Mirror content that you distribute via newsletter, social media, or other platforms is subject to the terms above.
  21. We reserve the right to deny or revoke an organization’s permission to republish CT Mirror content for any reason.

  24. While you may use our content at no charge, we would appreciate a donation commensurate with the volume of CT Mirror content that you republish so we can continue to make high-quality stories available for free republication. Something in the $150 to $365 per year range seems reasonable.
