File deleted

[edit]

Hello. I saw from en-wiki that this file was deleted File:Nagorno-Karabakh fuel depot explosion.jpg. Is it possible to request undeletion and solve the copyright issues? Does the file need a different source to be copyright free? KhndzorUtogh (talk) 07:28, 6 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

The file itself needs to be freely licensed, which isn't the case. Regards, --Polarlys (talk) 08:08, 6 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hi, I note that you've just deleted this as spam. In a DR with only two contributions, one either way.

Can you please point to our policy on COM:SPAM. In particular the part that states images of commercial products should be deleted for no other reason than that they're sourced from the product maker. We do not, AFAIK, have such a policy. Andy Dingley (talk) 09:52, 6 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

What to say about the only and unused upload of an account with the file description “*** Bikes are a new brand specialising in the manufacture of balance bikes for children.”? To me, this is Advertising or self-promotion. as outlined by the policy. I have no strong feelings about this, however. --Polarlys (talk) 21:58, 6 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

You may be an eligible candidate for the U4C election

[edit]

Greetings,

The Universal Code of Conduct Coordinating Committee (U4C) seeks candidates for the 2026 election. The U4C is the global committee responsible for overseeing enforcement of the Universal Code of Conduct. Elections are held annually, if elected a committee member serves for two years.

This year the U4C requires candidates to hold administrator rights on at least one wiki, which is why you are being contacted as you appear to hold this right. There are other requirements, such as candidates must be at least 18 years old and may not be employed by the Wikimedia Foundation or other related chapters and affiliates. You can find more information in the call for candidates on Meta-wiki. Additionally, the committee's working language is English; some ability to communicate in English is required.

The election opens on 18 May, if you are eligible and interested you have until 10 May to submit your candidacy. There will week between for candidates to answer questions from the community. Voting takes place privately in SecurePoll, successful candidates must receive at least 60% support. More information is available on the 2026 Elections page, including timelines and other candidacy information. If you read over the material and consider yourself qualified, please consider submitting your name to run for the committee. If you think someone else in your community might be interested and qualified, please encourage them to run.

In partnership with the U4C -- Keegan (WMF) (talk) 18:30, 28 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

[edit]

Why are the images I add being deleted even though they are published and circulated images and do not have copyright? مصطفى اكرم الركابي (talk) 09:47, 3 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hi, you simply can't take images from the web, claim “own work” and state that they aren't copyrighted. Please don't upload images you find online somewhere, almost all of them are copyrighted. --Polarlys (talk) 20:54, 3 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
مصطفى اكرم الركابي (talk) 21:24, 3 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
You need explicit permission from copyright holders to publish images here under a free licence. Please note that the images must also be available under a free licence in the USA, the server location. The customs in your country are unfortunately not sufficient. --Polarlys (talk) 20:28, 4 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

Incorrect deletion of File:Doppler on Wheels 8 (DOW 8) Rapid Scan Rear Profile.jpg and File:Doppler_on_Wheels_5_(DOW_5)_during_VORTEX_2.png

[edit]

These two images were deleted for violating copyright, when both photographs are under public domain in the United States.

File:Doppler_on_Wheels_5_(DOW_5)_during_VORTEX_2.png was taken by NOAA employee Chris Spannagle during the VORTEX 2 research project (image is a crop of 47th picture on this page). https://inside.nssl.noaa.gov/vortex2/2010/07/v2-2010-week-6-to-end-june-4-15-2010/

File:Doppler on Wheels 8 (DOW 8) Rapid Scan Rear Profile.jpg was taken from a National Science Foundation produced video under the "science nation" series, which can be found here on the NSF YouTube page https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jsDcQryQm3Q and archived press release from the NSF website https://web.archive.org/web/20151102060156/http://www.nsf.gov/news/special_reports/science_nation/doppleronwheels.jsp Realjospence (talk) 01:10, 10 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

The first file had the own work statement (request for deletion: “Screenshot/still frame from a copyrighted film labeled Tornado Alley or broadcast falsely claimed as "Own work".”), for the second file I see an externaly produced video that is not from the NSF. --Polarlys (talk) 08:40, 11 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
