File:Dramione.jpg/copyright violation?
[edit]How is this a copyright violation? I believe I used the proper licensing: CC BY 3.0 and fan art. Should I have used a different Creative Commons license? I am genuinely confused. The original fan art (https://www.deviantart.com/crazytenor/art/Draco-and-Hermione-4-ever-39524326) includes a Creative Commons Attribution license in the description. - OK - undeleted for now. At present I'm getting an error on the site so cannot check but will try again shortly. The rationale was "Original upload is licensed as CC-BY-NC-ND, not CC-BY as claimed here. NC and ND licenses are not compatible with Commons' licensing policy." which would make the licensing incompatible. However as you ask I'd prefer to check. website link removed
[edit]Hello, I noticed that my recent links were removed with the note “links, not on Commons please.” I’m new to contributing and just want to make sure I understand the correct process. If I upload the images to Wikimedia Commons under a free licence, would they then be suitable for inclusion in the article? Thank you for your guidance. Copyright issues
[edit]how? He said it's copyrighted in America. How? I used an image from a rare book(not found in public) on the Klang War (History of Malaya Malaysian heritage series). I even checked two suppliers, and neither had it in stock.MalayanGuard (talk) 12:04, 7 March 2026 (UTC)
Copyright issues
[edit]I try in good faith to upload non-copyrighted works. I use data and maps from others, but I make my own works myself. Data means sources like the Census Bureau or statistical websites.
I have experience making graphs and maps, as a graduate student.
If my works and uploads violate copyright, you can delete them. I just want to clarify that I am not intentionally engaging in online piracy. JohnAdams1800 (talk) 16:37, 29 March 2026 (UTC)
- I certainly made no allegations about "online piracy", but if you violate copyright your uploads will be deleted. However if you continue to do so after warnings then you will be blocked. Herby talk thyme 09:12, 30 March 2026 (UTC)
Hello. Why did you delete the photo?
- I've resst6ored it now. It looks as though, when it was restored before, the delete tag was left on it however I should have checked. Herby talk thyme 06:37, 9 April 2026 (UTC)
War with the Newts (1959).pdf
[edit]Hello. You have deleted the file for violating copyright, but I did not find any reason why you consider it a copyvio in the deletion summary. As far as I can see, the translation was first published in the United States in 1959 and its copyright was not renewed. May I ask for some explanation? Thanks, Jan Kameníček (talk) 10:39, 11 April 2026 (UTC)
- Yes - I'm definitely reviewing that and I have undeleted it. I need to do some more research on where it was published and when (I'm not disagreeing with you - I simply want to be quite sure). Generally books are copyrighted however I may well be wrong in this case. If I'm wrong I assure you you have my apologies. Let me take a little time to be sure though please. You may be an eligible candidate for the U4C election
[edit]Greetings,
The Universal Code of Conduct Coordinating Committee (U4C) seeks candidates for the 2026 election. The U4C is the global committee responsible for overseeing enforcement of the Universal Code of Conduct. Elections are held annually, if elected a committee member serves for two years.
This year the U4C requires candidates to hold administrator rights on at least one wiki, which is why you are being contacted as you appear to hold this right. There are other requirements, such as candidates must be at least 18 years old and may not be employed by the Wikimedia Foundation or other related chapters and affiliates. You can find more information in the call for candidates on Meta-wiki. Additionally, the committee's working language is English; some ability to communicate in English is required.
The election opens on 18 May, if you are eligible and interested you have until 10 May to submit your candidacy. There will week between for candidates to answer questions from the community. Voting takes place privately in SecurePoll, successful candidates must receive at least 60% support. More information is available on the 2026 Elections page, including timelines and other candidacy information. If you read over the material and consider yourself qualified, please consider submitting your name to run for the committee. If you think someone else in your community might be interested and qualified, please encourage them to run.
