English: The John Rogers House, 227 West Center Street, Medina, New York, October 2021. Built in 1838, this is a design that typifies the architecture of the area during the earliest stages of European settlement: a three-bay-wide structure of rough-hewn blocks of Medina sandstone in a vernacular Greek Revival style. Particularly nice touches are the splayed jack arches atop the first-floor windows and the soffit returns at the base of the roof's shallow side gable, reminiscent of a Classical broken pediment. Irish-born laborer John Rogers (c. 1805-1884) was the house's original resident. |
