You know what they say: “Expect the unexpected.”
I can tell you from personal experience, when you’re in the newspaper-publishing business, you take those words to heart.
That’s why I’m writing to you now – to tell you about the latest unexpected
event. Here’s what’s going on.
We need a new computer system here at the Chronicle. Actually, it’s not just a computer system. It’s a complete technology upgrade. Everything is digital now. Even the local grocery store with its scanners and self-checkout lanes. It’s the same
with the Chronicle. We have to keep up.
The problem is that I knew this upgrade would be costly, and it’s coming at a time when we have lots of expenses hitting all at once. Some generous, long-time supporters have already given to help, but the technology has far exceeded our cost estimates. Here’s what the upgrade is going to take:
• First, we need a new database software system for storing and managing our massive database of 130,000 subscribers worldwide, along with our huge mailing list. This is big, complex and expensive.
• Second, we need a new office printer. This is a commercial-size office printer that’s big enough to serve the entire staff.
• Third, we need a new email system. This may seem like a simple thing, but getting it done takes a third-party service company.
• Fourth, we need an external hard drive for backing up files. We can’t risk losing data if something happens.
• Fifth, we need a new system for processing payroll and tax forms that’s more efficient.
• Sixth, we need to cover the skyrocketing prices for paper, printing and postage. It’s getting more and more expensive to print and mail the Chronicle.
The cost for all this? It’s $168,000. We simply can’t handle that on our own. You can see why I’m coming to you with this and asking for your help.
Introducing Project Increase. I’m calling it that because of what Paul said in 1 Corinthians 3:6: “God gave the increase” The goal of this campaign is to raise $168,000 to make the Chronicle into a stronger voice for you, our fellowship and our church.
The truth is that we’ve faced financial challenges like this before, and every time, our faithful supporters have come through for us. You and other supporters like you have always shown your heart for the Chronicle and this ministry. I deeply appreciate that. It means everything to know that you’re with us. We spent hours searching for the system that would do what we need at the lowest cost. We talked with experts. We did our homework. And this is the best way to go.
The result will be the Chronicle that you have loved for years, only more efficient – which means better able to serve you and our fellowship. That’s what this is about. Sure, it’s funding for technology. But it’s more about living our lives in faith. That’s because your support powers everything we do here at the Chronicle to inform, inspire and unite our fellowship.
Now we need you more than ever. Please join Project Increase to help raise $168,000. This is a new beginning, and I hope you’re as excited about it as I am. We’re looking ahead to the future with optimism. Join us. Please give now.
