According to unofficial results, incumbent District Attorney Scott Colom has won reelection, defeating Republican challenger Jase Dalrymple.
As of press time Colom has 21,943 (55.4%) votes to Dalrymple’s 17,594 (44.6%). The district covers Lowndes, Oktibbeha, Clay and Noxubee counties.
Those totals do not include 637 absentee ballots from Noxbuee, nor do they include affidavit ballots, but there are not enough in play to change the overall outcome.
Colom appears to have won all four counties, but there are enough affidavits in Lowndes County to potentially tilt the balance in Dalrymple’s favor. In Lowndes there are 258 affidavits, and Colom’s lead is only 95 votes.
Colom told The Dispatch he was honored to be reelected.
“To have won all four counties makes me feel validated in the hard work my team and I have put in,” Colom said. “I ran a positive campaign, and I never said a negative thing about my opponent. I trusted the voters to see through the distractions and fudging of information, and that the hard work they saw would save the day.”
Dalrymple said he ran a respectful race.
“I did what I could with a third of the money my opponent raised,” Dalrymple said. “I believe the governor’s race influenced our race, but at the same time I ran the race with dignity and kept it clean and did not attack my opponent. I think the future is bright and I wish nothing but the best for my opponent.”
