The formula involves assigning a value (xG) to each shot based on various factors like shot location, angle, distance from goal, type of assist, and pressure from defenders.
If a player has 4 shots, you can calculate the xG score for each shot using the calculator above.
Then using the calculator below input ‘4’ and press ‘create fields’. This will give you 4 input boxes where you can input each of the xG scores.
From this you can then calculate a final expected goals figure.
The basic formula to calculate total xG is:
(Total Shots) × (Average xG per Shot) = Expected Goals (xG)
