B/R's 2025 Heisman Trophy Rankings after Week 9
Six weeks remain in the 2025 Heisman Trophy race, and the leading names for the nation's most coveted individual award are unsurprising.
If you scan the AP Top 25, you'll notice a familiar trend.
Yes, you'll notice each starting quarterback of the nine highest-ranked teams in the Heisman conversation. Some are clinging to the back end of the discussion, but every top contender for the award is leading a thriving team.
Again, that makes sense. But it also means any matchups with those QBs and their programs will shape more than the College Football Playoff chase.
The tiers are subjective yet based on historical voting trends, such as individual production and team success.
Tier 4: They're in the Neighborhood
1 of 4
Brendan Sorsby, QB, Cincinnati
As the Bearcats rolled Baylor to reach 7-1, Brendan Sorsby threw for 111 yards, rushed for 85 yards and totaled three touchdowns. It wasn't his most dynamic effort, but he played a mistake-free game and pushed UC one valuable step closer to competing for a Big 12 title. Cincinnati plays at Utah this Saturday.
CJ Carr, QB, Notre Dame
Notre Dame just had its second and final off weekend, setting the stage for five games in five consecutive weeks to close the regular season. CJ Carr enters a clash at Boston College with 1,758 yards at 9.6 per attempt—which is tied for fourth nationally—and 18 total scores to four interceptions.
Dante Moore, QB, Oregon
The important part is Oregon won. But, yeesh, that was an ugly showing in a rainy, windy 21-7 victory over a reeling Wisconsin team. Dante Moore completed 9-of-15 attempts for 86 yards and accounted for zero touchdowns. The conditions played a role in his quieter day, but October was overall not a good month for his candidacy after a brilliant September. Oregon is off in Week 10.
Jeremiah Smith, QB, Ohio State
Rested after an idle weekend, Jeremiah Smith and the Buckeyes return with an interesting game. Before the season, this matchup with Penn State seemed like it would be a major showdown. Instead, the Bucks are simply looking to avoid an upset at home. Penn State held Smith to four catches and 55 yards last year.
Tier 3: They Have Our Attention
2 of 4
Haynes King, QB, Georgia Tech
Haynes King apparently took the "he doesn't pass a whole lot" note to heart, throwing for season highs of 304 yards and three scores in a rout of Syracuse. For good measure, he chipped in 91 yards and two touchdowns on the ground. He lacks a signature moment on his resume, but potential opportunities are on the horizon if Georgia Tech, 8-0, keeps winning. NC State hosts the Jackets in Week 10.
Jeremiyah Love, RB, Notre Dame
The upcoming trip to Boston College seems awfully favorable for Jeremiyah Love, who shredded USC for 265 scrimmage yards last time out. Boston College just surrendered 317 yards and four scores to Louisville on the ground.
Trinidad Chambliss, QB, Ole Miss
Trinidad Chambliss has dipped into the range of being a quality QB who might not truly contend. That is not a bad thing. He continues to pile up yardage, including 368 combined in the vital win at Oklahoma. However, he contributed only one touchdown in that game, bringing his total to a modest 14. He could use a few stat-padding days as the schedule eases, though South Carolina's defense may be pesky this weekend.
Tier 2: Top Challengers
3 of 4
Gunner Stockton, QB, Georgia
November is busy for 6-1 Georgia, opening the month against Florida with Mississippi State, Texas and Georgia Tech all on the docket. That's not necessarily a gauntlet, but only the matchup with Texas is at home. Gunner Stockton heads into the stretch with 1,832 total yards and 17 touchdowns to one interception.
Julian Sayin, QB, Ohio State
Now that Penn State is a disaster, Ohio State's path is extremely friendly. Before the traditional finale at rival Michigan, the Buckeyes take on PSU, Purdue, UCLA and Rutgers. Julian Sayin has an ideal opportunity to bulk up his counting stats and lead OSU to an 11-0 record in advance of The Game.
Marcel Reed, QB, Texas A&M
Yes, he threw two interceptions. Still, in the 49-25 smackdown of LSU, Marcel Reed put together a strong performance with 202 passing yards, 108 rushing and four scores. Texas A&M is 8-0 entering its final idle weekend.
Diego Pavia, QB, Vanderbilt
The dream continues for Vanderbilt after a 17-10 victory over Missouri. Diego Pavia had a quiet afternoon with 149 yards, one rushing touchdown and a pick, but his impact on this surprise 7-1 squad is undeniable. Vandy is preparing for a test at Texas in Week 10.
Tier 1: The Front-Runners
4 of 4
Ty Simpson, QB, Alabama
Survive your bad games, that's the key. South Carolina put a scare into Alabama, but Ty Simpson led a critical tying drive in the fourth quarter of a 29-22 win. He trudged to 5.9 yards per attempt yet finished with 253 yards and two scores. Bama is off before hosting Brian Kelly-less LSU in Week 11.
Fernando Mendoza, QB, Indiana
Gaudy box scores have become a norm for Fernando Mendoza, but he only managed 168 passing yards, 45 rushing and four touchdowns in a 56-6 obliteration of UCLA. He didn't play in the fourth quarter. That's a pretty awesome day to have qualified as only. Indiana is 8-0 with a trip to Maryland up next.
