2025 Week 8 College Football Predictions for Every Game
Scan the Week 8 schedule, and you'll quickly determine it's going to be another great weekend around college football.
Five matchups between Top 25 teams headline an impactful Saturday that builds to the finish. After a couple of ranked SEC showdowns in the afternoon, the evening slate contains the last three of those contests.
UNLV taking on reigning Mountain West champion Boise State means Week 8 is absolutely loaded with great matchups.
Rankings are based on the latest AP Top 25.
And, hey, shoutout to Conference USA for entertaining us on Tuesdays. Those matchups happened prior to publish time, though.
Top Matchups for Week 8
1 of 5
No. 10 LSU (5-1) at No. 17 Vanderbilt (5-1), Noon ET
Against FBS competition, LSU hasn't scored more than 23 points—and that number dips to 20 opposite power-conference teams. Even though the Tigers defense is excellent, it's a concerning trend heading into a road game.
Prediction: Vanderbilt 21, LSU 20
No. 5 Ole Miss (6-0) at No. 9 Georgia (5-1), 3:30 p.m.
The challenge seems straightforward: Can a more explosive Ole Miss offense handle a sturdier Georgia defense? Had the Rebels performed better in Week 7, an upset might be more appealing. But this UGA coaching staff is likely to stress Trinidad Chambliss after—as Lane Kiffin called it—some "Division II stuff" last weekend and force him into a few mistakes.
Prediction: Georgia 27, Ole Miss 21
No. 11 Tennessee (5-1) at No. 6 Alabama (5-1), 7:30 p.m.
We know both offenses can score. However, a lingering issue for the Vols is their defense, which has surrendered 31-plus points in all three SEC contests. It's not a positive sign heading into a clash with Alabama's soaring offense.
Prediction: Alabama 34, Tennessee 27
No. 20 USC (5-1) at No. 13 Notre Dame (4-2), 7:30 p.m.
On paper, this is a contest between two high-powered offenses. The main question is whether Notre Dame's defense can continue its ascent from an ugly start to the campaign. I'll lean yes—particularly at home—but Jayden Maiava-led USC is fully capable of springing the upset in South Bend.
Prediction: Notre Dame 36, USC 31
No. 23 Utah (5-1) at No. 15 BYU (6-0), 8 p.m.
Though the hosts are unbeaten, BYU has played with metaphorical fire in Big 12 action. Finally, the Cougars may get burned. Winning on the road is always tough, but Utah brings a terrific defense and a run-heavy offense that is finding its stride and is capable of controlling the game.
Prediction: Utah 28, BYU 23
Weekday Games
2 of 5
Louisville (4-1) at No. 2 Miami (5-0), Friday, 7 p.m. ET
In recent years, misdirection has wrecked Miami in clashes with Louisville. Jeff Brohm is a fantastic play-caller. So, this is an important test for what's been a significantly improved Miami defense to avoid reverting to problematic habits.
Prediction: Miami 34, Louisville 29
No. 25 Nebraska (5-1) at Minnesota (4-2), Friday, 8 p.m.
While the visitors come in ranked and as the favorite, the Golden Gophers are unbeaten at home. The interesting piece of this matchup is Minnesota tends to rely on its passing game, while Nebraska has an elite secondary—and where NU's defense is a little shaky against the run, Minnesota has been similarly mediocre offensively. If the trends hold true, advantage Nebraska.
Prediction: Nebraska 26, Minnesota 23
Delaware (3-2) at Jacksonville State (3-3), Wednesday, 7 p.m.
Prediction: Jacksonville State 28, Delaware 24
UTEP (1-5) at Sam Houston (0-6), Wednesday, 7 p.m.
Prediction: UTEP 27, Sam Houston 21
Tulsa (2-4) at East Carolina (3-3), Thursday, 7:30 p.m.
Prediction: ECU 34, Tulsa 23
San Jose State (2-4) at Utah State (3-3), Friday, 9 p.m.
Prediction: Utah State 38, SJSU 31
North Carolina (2-3) at Cal (4-2), Friday, 10:30 p.m.
Prediction: Cal 35, UNC 24
Saturday Early Games
3 of 5
No. 12 Georgia Tech (6-0) at Duke (4-2), Noon ET
Perhaps the final time Georgia Tech isn't favored in an ACC game, the Yellow Jackets head to Duke as a slight underdog. The main storyline is whether a pesky Duke defense can thwart a Tech rushing attack led by QB Haynes King, who is maddeningly efficient (to opponents, at least) in short-yardage situations. Stopping the money-down plays is imperative for Duke to flip this result.
Prediction: Georgia Tech 23, Duke 19
No. 14 Oklahoma (5-1) at South Carolina (3-3), 12:45 p.m.
Expect a whole lot of defense when Oklahoma takes on South Carolina, which is coached by former OU assistant Shane Beamer. What's especially worrying for the hosts is the offensive line has yielded 20 sacks, the eighth-worst mark nationally. Oklahoma, meanwhile, is tied for third at 22 sacks. South Carolina desperately needs its blocking group to hold up, but my optimism is low.
Prediction: Oklahoma 20, South Carolina 13
Connecticut (4-2) at Boston College (1-5), Noon
Prediction: Boston College 27, UConn 24
Washington (5-1) at Michigan (4-2), Noon
Prediction: Michigan 26, Washington 23
Arizona (4-2) at Houston (5-1), Noon
Prediction: Houston 24, Arizona 20
Baylor (4-2) at TCU (4-2), Noon
Prediction: TCU 37, Baylor 33
Army (3-3) at Tulane (5-1), Noon
Prediction: Tulane 28, Army 17
Central Michigan (3-3) at Bowling Green (3-3), Noon
Prediction: BGSU 24, CMU 21
Eastern Michigan (2-5) at Miami (Ohio) (3-3), Noon
Prediction: Miami 27, EMU 20
West Virginia (2-4) at UCF (3-3), 1 p.m.
Prediction: UCF 31, WVU 19
Kent State (2-4) at Toledo (3-3), 2 p.m.
Prediction: Toledo 38, Kent State 17
Buffalo (3-3) at Massachusetts (0-6), 2:30 p.m.
Prediction: Buffalo 26, UMass 13
Purdue (2-4) at Northwestern (4-2), 3 p.m.
Prediction: Northwestern 23, Purdue 17
Troy (4-2) at Louisiana-Monroe (3-3), 3 p.m.
Prediction: Troy 27, ULM 20
Saturday Afternoon Games
4 of 5
No. 1 Ohio State (6-0) at Wisconsin (2-4), 3:30 p.m. ET
Wisconsin hasn't cracked 300 yards or 14 points in four games against a power-conference team. Absolutely no issues for Ohio State here.
Prediction: Ohio State 41, Wisconsin 7
Michigan State (3-3) at No. 3 Indiana (6-0), 3:30 p.m.
An ideal matchup to avoid a hangover game, Indiana is set to host Michigan State and its porous defense. No team in the Big Ten has surrendered more points per game than the 31.8 afforded to the Spartans' slate so far.
Prediction: Indiana 38, MSU 17
No. 4 Texas A&M (6-0) at Arkansas (2-4), 3:30 p.m.
Where is that nonsensical upset going to happen? I think Texas A&M's offense can overpower Arkansas on the road, and that's the driving force of picking the Aggies. But if the Hogs finally rise up defensively, this could get interesting.
Prediction: Texas A&M 31, Arkansas 24
No. 7 Texas Tech (6-0) at Arizona State (4-2), 4 p.m.
Injuries are beginning to sting Arizona State, which played last Saturday without star quarterback Sam Leavitt. If he's sidelined again—and that's a distinct possibility—Texas Tech should put together a comfortable win.
Prediction: Texas Tech 34, Arizona State 16
No. 22 Memphis (6-0) at UAB (2-4), 4 p.m.
UAB just fired Trent Dilfer, so maybe the "first-game-interim bump" is headed to the Blazers. That said, I'm not going to believe a defense giving up 41.3 points per game can cause an upset.
Prediction: Memphis 44, UAB 21
SMU (4-2) at Clemson (3-3), 3:30 p.m.
Prediction: Clemson 34, SMU 27
UTSA (3-3) at North Texas (5-1), 3:30 p.m.
Prediction: North Texas 45, UTSA 31
Temple (3-3) at Charlotte (1-5), 3:30 p.m.
Prediction: Temple 27, Charlotte 19
Akron (2-5) at Ball State (2-4), 3:30 p.m.
Prediction: Ball State 24, Akron 21
Northern Illinois (1-5) at Ohio (3-3), 3:30 p.m.
Prediction: Ohio 23, NIU 16
UNLV (6-0) at Boise State (4-2), 3:30 p.m.
Prediction: Boise State 36, UNLV 33
Wyoming (3-3) at Air Force (1-5), 3:30 p.m.
Prediction: Ari Force 34, Wyoming 28
Old Dominion (4-2) at James Madison (5-1), 3:30 p.m.
Prediction: JMU 27, ODU 24
Texas State (3-3) at Marshall (3-3), 3:30 p.m.
Prediction: Texas State 37, Marshall 31
Coastal Carolina (3-3) at Appalachian State (4-2), 3:30 p.m.
Prediction: App State 30, Coastal Carolina 20
Mississippi State (4-2) at Florida (2-4), 4:15 p.m.
Prediction: Florida 27, Mississippi State 22
Southern Miss (4-2) at Louisiana (2-4), 5 p.m.
Prediction: Southern Miss 31, Louisiana 24
Saturday Evening and Late Slate
5 of 5
No. 8 Oregon (5-1) at Rutgers (3-3), 6:30 p.m. ET
Rutgers actually has a solid offense, but those efforts are basically wasted in a rough defense. In all three Big Ten contests, the Scarlet Knights have ceded 31-plus points. Not a favorable trend with Oregon on the way.
Prediction: Oregon 43, Rutgers 24
Washington State (3-3) at No. 18 Virginia (5-1), 6:30 p.m.
Rather surprisingly, Washington State put a scare into Ole Miss last Saturday. At the very least, the Cougars earned more respect in Week 8—even if that does not equate to being a trendy upset pick at UVA.
Prediction: Virginia 31, Washington State 23
No. 21 Texas (4-2) at Kentucky (2-3), 7 p.m.
Road games are strange. Kentucky hung around with Ole Miss earlier this season, too. Texas, nevertheless, should just be too good defensively for a UK offense that stopped shy of 300 yards in losses to South Carolina and UGA.
Prediction: Texas 27, Kentucky 10
Florida Atlantic (3-3) at No. 19 South Florida (5-1), 7:30 p.m.
The task is straightforward and anything but simple: Contain the USF offense. The dynamic unit has racked up 40.7 points per game—a number that rises to 53.5 outside of power-conference foes. Godspeed, FAU.
Prediction: USF 48, FAU 28
No. 16 Missouri (5-1) at Auburn (3-3), 7:45 p.m.
Auburn is winless in SEC play, but make no mistake about the Tigers' ability. They bring a stingy defense, no matter the venue. Missouri—which has committed a turnover in five straight games—needs to reverse the trend or else Auburn, after several near-misses, can steal a win.
Prediction: Auburn 20, Missouri 17
No. 24 Cincinnati (5-1) at Oklahoma State (1-5), 8 p.m.
Oklahoma State simply hasn't showed it has many solutions on offense to threaten a competent team. Although the Cincinnati defense isn't exactly elite, this would have to be a pretty stunning meltdown for the Bearcats.
Prediction: Cincinnati 37, Oklahoma State 16
Penn State (3-3) at Iowa (4-2), 7 p.m.
Prediction: Iowa 23, Penn State 20
Maryland (4-2) at UCLA (2-4), 7 p.m.
Prediction: UCLA 31, Maryland 27
Hawaii (5-2) at Colorado State (2-4), 7 p.m.
Prediction: CSU 32, Hawaii 29
Georgia State (1-5) at Georgia Southern (2-4), 7 p.m.
Prediction: Georgia Southern 34, Georgia State 30
Pitt (4-2) at Syracuse (3-3), 7:30 p.m.
Prediction: Pitt 31, Syracuse 26
Nevada (1-5) at New Mexico (3-3), 9:45 p.m.
Prediction: New Mexico 33, Nevada 17
Lafayette (5-2) at Oregon State (0-7), 10 p.m.
Prediction: Oregon State 24, Lafayette 16
Florida State (3-3) at Stanford (2-4), 10:30 p.m.
Prediction: Florida State 38, Stanford 17
