Ranking the Top 10 MLB Draft 2025 Prospects at Each Position

Joel ReuterJun 26, 2025

With the LSU Tigers claiming the 2025 College World Series title over the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers on Sunday, the MLB draft is now officially the focus of the amateur baseball world.

The 2025 draft will commence on Sunday, July 13, during the MLB All-Star break, with the Washington Nationals set to pick No. 1 overall.

Our latest mock draft published earlier this week, but it's time to start diving deeper into this year's class as we are now just a few short weeks from the next wave of talent taking the first step in their professional careers.

Ahead is a position-by-position look at the best of the 2025 class, though it's important to remember that positions are not set in stone, and more than a few players will end up shifting between the moment they hear their name called and their potential MLB debut.

Catchers

1 of 8
NCAA Division I Baseball Championships
Caden Bodine

Top 10 Catcher Prospects

1. Caden Bodine, Coastal Carolina
2. Luke Stevenson, North Carolina
3. Brayden Jaksa, Irvington HS (CA)
4. Easton Carmichael, Oklahoma
5. Taitn Gray, Dallas Center-Grimes HS (IA)
6. Omar Serna, Lutheran South Academy (TX)
7. Rylan Galvan, Texas
8. Trent Grindlinger, Huntington Beach HS (CA)
9. Grant Jay, Dallas Baptist
10. Brooks Bryan, Troy

Top Prospect: With some of the best bat-to-ball skills in the 2025 class and the tools to develop into a quality defender, Caden Bodine sits atop the catcher board by a narrow margin over draft-eligible sophomore Luke Stevenson. Bodine hit .318/.454/.461 with nearly twice as many walks (47) as strikeouts (24) this spring while helping lead Coastal Carolina to the College World Series final.

Sleeper: Standout production in the SEC always draws attention, and Texas catcher Rylan Galvan was one of the team's top hitters this season, posting a .296/.452/.613 line with 14 doubles, 15 home runs and 47 RBI. His 27.6 percent strikeout rate is a red flag, but he could be a Day 2 steal.

First Basemen

Andrew Fischer

Top 10 First Base Prospects

1. Andrew Fischer, Tennessee
2. Ethan Petry, South Carolina
3. Nolan Schubart, Oregon State
4. Jack Gurevitch, San Diego
5. Tanner Thatch, UNC Wilmington
6. Jared Jones, LSU
7. Anthony Martinez, UC-Irvine
8. Evan Hankins, The Miller School of Albemarle (VA)
9. Chris Arroyo, Virginia
10. Zach Yorke, Grand Canyon

Top Prospect: Despite playing some third base at Tennessee, slugger Andrew Fischer is ticketed for first base in pro ball, and his steady middle-of-the-order production should make him a first-round pick. After posting a 1.039 OPS with 20 home runs at Ole Miss as a sophomore, he joined the Volunteers and hit .341/.497/.760 with 25 home runs, 65 RBI and more walks (63) than strikeouts (42).

Sleeper: The Grand Canyon University baseball program recently produced AL Rookie of the Year front-runner Jacob Wilson, and they have another offensive standout who should go inside the first 200 picks in Zach Yorke. An imposing 6'2", 290-pound masher, he hit .339/.447/.632 with 13 home runs and 46 RBI in 48 games this spring.

Second Basemen

Tennessee v Arizona
Gavin Kilen

Top 10 Second Base Prospects

1. Gavin Kilen, Tennessee
2. Sean Gamble, IMG Academy (FL)
3. Ryan Mitchell, Houston HS (TN)
4. Mitch Voit, Michigan
5. Daniel Dickinson, LSU
6. Henry Godbout, Virginia
7. Ethan Moore, Oak Park-River Forest HS (IL)
8. Luke Hill, Ole Miss
9. Drew Faurot, Florida State
10. Cade Kurland, Florida

Top Prospect: Replacing 2024 first-round pick Christian Moore at second base was no small task for the Tennessee Volunteers, but they found their guy in Louisville transfer Gavin Kilen. He hit .357/.441/.671 with 13 doubles, 15 home runs and 46 RBI in 53 games this spring to cement his status as one of the top college bats in the class and a likely first-round prospect.

Sleeper: Two years ago, it looked like Cade Kurland might be one of the top prospects in the 2025 draft class after he posted a .959 OPS with 17 doubles, 17 home runs and 50 RBI in 68 games as a true freshman. He took a step backward as a sophomore and then played just 14 games this spring while battling a shoulder injury, but his past production makes him an intriguing under-the-radar target.

Third Basemen

4 of 8
All-Star Futures Game
Ethan Holliday

Top 10 Third Base Prospects

1. Ethan Holliday, Stillwater HS (OK)
2. Josh Hammond, Wesleyan Christian Academy (NC)
3. Gavin Fien, Great Oaks HS (CA)
4. Xavier Neyens, Mount Vernon HS (WA)
5. Brady Ebel, Corona HS (CA)
6. Murf Gray, Fresno State
7. Trent Caraway, Oregon State
8. Tim Piasentin, Foothills Composite HS (Canada)
9. Ethan Hedges, USC
10. Boston Kellner, Hamilton HS (AZ)

Top Prospect: Ethan Holliday will likely be announced as a shortstop when he hears his name called with one of the top picks in the 2025 draft, but his future is at the hot corner where his 6'4", 210-pound frame, strong arm and middle-of-the-order offensive profile make him a perfect fit. There is some swing-and-miss to his game, but there is also legitimate 30-homer upside and perhaps the highest ceiling of any bat in the class.

Sleeper: The top prospect out of the Canadian high school ranks this spring is Tim Piasentin, who has intriguing 55-grade raw power and plenty of remaining upside thanks to a strong, projectable 6'3", 200-pound frame. He is limited athletically, but has a strong arm and should at least get a shot to stick at the hot corner.

Shortstops

5 of 8
COLLEGE BASEBALL: FEB 23 Karbach Round Rock Classic Minnesota at Oregon State
Aiva Arquette

Top 10 Shortstop Prospects

1. Aiva Arquette, Oregon State
2. Eli Willits, Fort Cobb-Broxton HS (OK)
3. Billy Carlson, Corona HS (CA)
4. JoJo Parker, Purvis HS (MS)
5. Marek Houston, Wake Forest
6. Steele Hall, Hewitt-Trussville HS (AL)
7. Kayson Cunningham, Johnson HS (TX)
8. Wehiwa Aloy, Arkansas
9. Daniel Pierce, Mill Creek HS (GA)
10. Alex Lodise, Florida State

Top Prospect: The depth of top-tier high school shortstop talent might be the biggest strength of the 2025 draft class, but the top prospect at the position is still a college bat in Aiva Arquette. The Washington transfer hit .354/.461/.654 with 17 doubles, 19 home runs and 66 RBI in 65 games this spring, further boosting his stock by proving he can play a solid shortstop after lining up primarily at second base with the Huskies.

Sleeper: There's a good chance all 10 prospects listed above will be taken on Day 1 of the draft inside the top-50 picks, so we're going off-board for our shortstop sleeper. Georgia prep Dax Kilby has one of the most polished all-around games of any of this year's Day 1 shortstop prospects, and he was a standout at the draft combine, so he is someone who could go higher than his position on draft boards if a team is enamored with his combination of floor, ceiling and polish.

Outfielders

6 of 8
Tennessee v Arizona
Brendan Summerhill

Top 10 Outfield Prospects

1. Brendan Summerhill, Arizona
2. Ike Irish, Auburn
3. Jace LaViolette, Texas A&M
4. Slater de Brun, Summit HS (OR)
5. Ethan Conrad, Wake Forest
6. Devin Taylor, Indiana
7. Quentin Young, Oaks Christian (CA)
8. Max Belyeu, Texas
9. Mason Neville, Oregon
10. Cam Cannarella, Clemson

Top Prospect: A standout college performer with more untapped upside, Brendan Summerhill has the potential to develop into a 20/20 offensive player and a standout defender in center field. He hit .343/.459/.556 with 22 extra-base hits this spring, and while he hit just 14 home runs in 124 college games, he has the potential to develop significantly more in-game power with a strong 6'3", 200-pound frame and strong batted-ball data.

Sleeper: After tallying just 33 plate appearances as a freshman at Arkansas, Mason Neville put together a strong two-year run with the Oregon Ducks, including a junior campaign where he hit .290/.429/.724 with 26 home runs in 57 games. Beneath the surface of those loud power numbers, he also trimmed his strikeout rate from 33.5 percent last year to a more manageable 23.6 percent this spring.

Right-Handed Pitchers

Corona High School Baseball Portraits
Seth Hernandez

Top 10 RH Pitching Prospects

1. Seth Hernandez, Corona HS (CA)
2. Kyson Witherspoon, Oklahoma
3. Tyler Bremner, UC Santa Barbara
4. Gage Wood, Arkansas
5. Riley Quick, Alabama
6. Anthony Eyanson, LSU
7. Patrick Forbes, Louisville
8. JB Middleton, Southern Miss
9. A.J. Russell, Tennessee
10. Angel Cervantes, Warren HS (CA)

Top Prospect: There is always hesitation surrounding high school right-handed pitchers given their high bust rate over the years, but Seth Hernandez is as good as any prospect from that demographic in recent memory. With an ultra-projectable 6'4", 190-pound frame, four plus pitches, advanced command and clean mechanics, he could be one of baseball's top pitching prospects by 2027.

Sleeper: After pitching primarily in relief as a freshman and sophomore, JB Middleton was one of the nation's breakout pitching prospects this spring, finishing 10-1 with a 2.31 ERA, 0.85 WHIP and 122 strikeouts in 105.1 innings to climb comfortably into the second-tier of college pitching.

Left-Handed Pitchers

8 of 8
NCAA BASEBALL: JUN 07 Division I Super Regional - LSU vs West Virginia
Kade Anderson

Top 10 LH Pitching Prospects

1. Kade Anderson, LSU
2. Jamie Arnold, Florida State
3. Liam Doyle, Tennessee
4. Kruz Schoolcraft, Sunset HS (OR)
5. Zach Root, Arkansas
6. Jack Bauer, Lincoln-Way East (IL)
7. Joseph Dzierwa, Michigan State
8. Briggs McKenzie, Corinth Holders HS (NC)
9. Cameron Appenzeller, Glenwood HS (IL)
10. J.D. Thompson, Vanderbilt

Top Prospect: The trio of Kade Anderson (12-1, 3.18 ERA, 180 K, 119.0 IP), Jamie Arnold (8-2, 2.98 ERA, 119 K, 84.2 IP) and Liam Doyle (10-4, 3.20 ERA, 164 K, 95.2 IP) are 1, 1A and 1B in this year's college pitching class, and no doubt listed in a variety of orders based on which team you ask. Following his three-hit, 10-strikeout shutout in Game 1 of the College World Series final and with the overall polish to be the first player from the 2025 class to reach the majors, Anderson gets the top spot here.

Sleeper: In his three years at Michigan State, Joseph Dzierwa steadily improved his numbers across the board, culminating in a junior season where he finished 8-3 with a 2.36 ERA, 0.98 WHIP and 104 strikeouts in 91.2 innings to take home Big Ten Pitcher of the Year honors. With a towering 6'8" frame, deceptive arm slot and terrific command, he has an extremely high floor and is one of the safest bets in the class to stick as a starter.
