About BKV Energy

We’re BKV Energy, a Texas electricity company based in Fort Worth and with offices in Houston. We power homes across the Lone Star State with simple fixed-rate electricity plans without gimmicks or hidden fees.

We stand apart from our competitors by championing transparency and affordability. At the same time, we offer our Texas customer a robust set of benefits called BKV Energy Plus that rewards and thanks them for their loyalty.

BKV Energy Plus gives back to our customers through several benefits, including an annual loyalty payout, monthly reward points, and opportunities to reduce rates mid-contract, for free.

History of BKV Energy

Headquartered in Fort Worth, Texas, BKV Energy is a mid-sized Texas electricity provider serving tens of thousands of Texans. BKV Energy provides over 1,000 megawatts of power annually to residential and business customers.

BKV Energy was founded in October 2022 as the retail arm of BKV Corporation, a natural gas energy company based in Denver, Colorado in operation since 2015.

  • October 2022: BKV Energy was founded.
  • January 2023: BKV Energy began to provide electricity to customers in the Oncor, CenterPoint, AEP North, AEP Central, and Texas-New Mexico Power utility regions.
  • February 2023: Launched electricity plans on PowerToChoose.org.
  • June 2023: Created the Bluebonnet plan. Simple fixed-rate electricity with loyalty rewards, and no gimmicks or hidden fees.
  • January 2024: Lubbock electricity deregulated, and BKV Energy became one of the first REPs to provide power to customers in the Lubbock Power & Light utility region.
  • April 2024: BKV Energy launched VoltPoints, a monthly reward points program.
  • November 1, 2024: BKV Energy became the title sponsor of Texas Land Conservancy’s Malone Preserve, helping to protect 145 acres of Texas land.
  • November 18, 2024: We distributed the first annual ElectroShare loyalty payout. We gave back over $113,000 to eligible customers.
  • December 2024: We extended our first Reduce Your Rate offers, providing eligible customers the opportunity to switch to a cheaper energy charge in the middle of their contracts, for free.
  • March 2025: BKV Energy was the title sponsor of Houston Botanic Garden’s annual Bayou Blues Festival.

As of October 2025, BKV Energy has a 4.5-star rating on Google from over 1,000 customer reviews. BKV Energy has a 4.3-star rating on Trustpilot.

In 2025, BKV Energy was voted #1 Best Houston Electricity Provider in The Houston Chronicle’s Best of the Best awards, #1 Best Electric Service Provider in Lubbock in KCBD Lubbock’s Best of the West competition, and #2 Best Energy Company in DFW in Dallas Morning News People’s Choice awards.

Service areas

On January 1, 2022, Texas deregulated the electricity industry, and now there are over 100 retail electric providers (REPs) doing business in the state. Texas is one of 18 states that offer some level of deregulated electricity, with the state having the largest percentage (approximately 85%) of residents who are able to choose their service provider.

With deregulation, the transmission and distribution of electricity is handled by Transmission and Distribution Utilities (TDUs) that must offer access to their wires to all REPs on a non-discriminatory basis.

After joining the deregulated market in 2022, BKV Energy began competing with the other energy companies in the state. BKV Energy offers services to all regions and cities within the deregulated market, including Dallas, Fort Worth, Houston, Corpus Christi, Waco, Temple, San Angelo, Abilene, Midland, Odessa, Galveston, and Lubbock. Renewable energy plans

BKV Energy provides renewable energy plan options to our customers, ranging from 29-100% renewable. These plans are powered by solar panels and wind turbines across the state of Texas.

Electricity plans

BKV Energy offers several plans to our customers, including Bluebonnet, Daisy, Verbena, and Lantana.

All plans start at 29% renewable, but have a 100% renewable option with the following names: Bluebonnet Green, Daisy Green, Verbena Green, and Lantana Green.

Each plan is available at 12, 24, and 36-month terms, and they are also occasionally available at 3, 4, 6, 8, 9, 12, 13, 14, 15, and 18-month terms, depending on changes to the cost of wholesale electricity. We offer alternative term lengths based on seasonality when wholesale energy prices allow us to offer a lower energy charge and overall lower average price per kilowatt-hour.

Bluebonnet and Bluebonnet Green plans are exclusively available on the BKV Energy website. Daisy and Daisy Green plans are only available through PowerToChoose.org or Energy Ogre. Verbena, Verbena Green, Lantana, and Lantana Green plans are made available through various partner and comparison websites.

BKV Energy Plus

BKV Energy offers a suite of exclusive benefits called BKV Energy Plus. BKV Energy Plus includes Reduce Your Rate, ElectroShare, VoltPoints, Save Now Pay Later, Contact Consultation, and 30-Day Power Pilot.

Bluebonnet and Bluebonnet Green plan customers are automatically eligible for BKV Energy Plus benefits at no cost. Customers on Daisy, Daisy Green, Verbena, Verbena Green, Lantana, and Lantana Green plans may access BKV Energy Plus benefits with a monthly subscription.

Reduce Your Rate

The Reduce Your Rate benefit tracks changes in wholesale electricity prices compared to when a customer originally enrolled. If wholesale electricity prices drop, BKV Energy is able to offer the customer an energy charge rate reduction in the middle of their contract, for free. Learn more about Reduce Your Rate.

ElectroShare

ElectroShare is an annual loyalty payout tied to each customer’s tenure. The longer a customer is with BKV Energy, the more they can expect to receive. These payouts are delivered each November. Learn more about ElectroShare.

VoltPoints

VoltPoints are monthly reward points. Each month, customers receive 25 points they can use to win prizes such as gift cards, laptops, smart TVs, Bluetooth earbuds, and our monthly $1000 giveaway. Learn more about VoltPoints.

Save Now Pay Later

Save Now Pay Later is a bill payment flexibility program. Customers can contact customer support to skip their next bill and instead pay it off in six equal chunks over the following six months. 

Contract Consultation

Contract Consultation is a renewal concierge service for customers at the end of their current plan. They can schedule an appointment with an expert to determine the best BKV Energy plan for their home. 

30-Day Power Pilot

30-Day Power Pilot is BKV Energy’s 30-day risk-free trial. Customers can cancel within the first 30 days of their contract without paying an early termination fee. 

Community involvement and conservation

BKV Energy participates in a variety of community initiatives and environmental conservation efforts in Texas.

Texas Land Conservancy

Since 2024, BKV Energy has been the title sponsor of the Malone Preserve located in Rio Vista, Texas.

Texas Land Conservancy protects land through purchased or donated nature preserves and by holding permanent conservation easements on privately owned land. They now protect 213 properties totaling 168,069 acres.

BKV Energy’s sponsorship of the Malone Preserve helps to protect and conserve 145 acres of beautiful Texas land.

Houston Botanic Garden

BKV Energy was the title sponsor of the Houston Botanic Garden’s Bayou Blues Festival in March 2025. This annual music festival celebrates local Houston blues music and the return of the bluebonnet flowers to Texas.
