Introduction

The Dark-faced Ground-Tyrant is a medium-sized flycatcher that breeds in the alpine zone of Chile and Argentina. Though strongly terrestrial, the species does perch in trees along woodland edges when nesting. In the winter, it is an elevational migrant that moves downslope to valleys and coasts, and also moves north to Peru and Uruguay. The Dark-faced Ground-Tyrant is quite dark grayish brown above, with a blackish cap that bleeds down into a grayish lower face and whitish underparts.
