It will investigate how Atwood's dystopian fiction conspicuously weaves threads of cultural identity in the totalitarian society. While examining the work, the researchers found three forms of Memory Figures channelizing society: Architecture and time, Identical groupings, and Language. With significant attention to the prequel, The Handmaid's Tale, this article will consider The Testaments for the dissection of hard-wired cultural memory formation. This article focuses on how a politically unsettled society of Gilead, through its Memory Figures, inscribes a cultural narrative while instructing individual memories. Atwood's usage of these Memory Figures to achieve a theocratic regime has been scrutinized in this article. The Architecture of Gilead was given an intrusive wall of glass, where the symbol of eyes p...

Sartre, in his conceptualization of existentialism, brought out this subject to life reiterating the essence of life in a crystalized frame of anxiety(angst), bad faith and alienation. Highlighting the philosophy of life through the essence of a human being, likewise we see it's impossible to tell the shape of the painting when we peep in the middle but by the time as it progresses it takes its final shape and hence it becomes comprehensible. So as with the life of a man, the choices of man transcend in his fate and that fate further progresses and becomes an experience which at last results in the essence of a human being, as depicted in the writings of many prominent writers like Albert Camus, Jokha Alharthi, T.S Eliot, D.H Lawrence, etc. Jokha Alharthi's International Man Booker Prize (2019) winning novel Celestial Bodies, captures the spirit of Mid-Eastern (Omanian) society under transition faced with new challenges and opportunities. Her characters are atheistic existential beings who are stuck in the circle of bad faith and are unable to accept the duality of living reality.

Celestial Bodies written by Jokha Alharthi is considered as representative novel with transitional theme in Arabic literary circle. It has taken the fancy most particularly of the western readers since it portrays the unseen aspects of Omani society and also captures the spirit of Mid- Eastern transitional societies faced with new challenges and opportunities. Like Garcia Marquez’s One Hundred Years of Solitude, Alharthi also tied her novel intimately to the real history of Oman by capturing the rapid social changes and consequent shift in the cultural panorama through an Omani family over three generation. This paper aims to examine the cultural dynamic shift in Omani author Alharthi’s International Man Booker- Prize 2019 winning novel, C...

Typically, research done in the humanities is Janus-faced as it constantly assesses the facts and its relevance in the contemporary world. Any research in the field stands on its subjectivity that only comes with the rigorous testing and cross-checking of data to authenticate it with valid and reliable information. Research in the field of humanities is the anchor to the world on cultural development hence the data provided in the research should be testified on the grounds of varied situations and time frames to ensure validity and reliability. Acquainting research with approaches that testify for its validity is essential, along with considering a legitimate approach for reliability, this research paper will aim to provide a view on how invalid and unreliable data can prove hazardous for a generation. Through, the case study of Vivek Agnihotri’s The Tashkent Files the research will further provide a background for the need for data to be valid and reliable.

His friends and neighbours were of the same mind as his family and tried to change his mind by pleading with him, but he was determined to undertake the journey to the Celestial City at all costs. Many of his friends, as they realised his determination, scoffed at him, laughed and threatened him and declared he was out of his mind, but he stood fast to his decision, but with a heavy heart declared that if no-one will come with him, he will go alone. All journeys have a goal and such a journey as that which Christian was intent on taking, is what we call a "pilgrimage". We all have a journey to make through life, and we all are pilgrims on the way to God's Kingdom. So began in sorrow Christian's pilgrimage, but joy and hope and trust supported Christian on his way. Evangelist When Christian, sorely troubled in his mind, fled from his home, he looked in all directions not knowing which way to go, but there met him a man called "Evangelist", to whom he told the reason for his tears. Evangelist, taking pity upon him said, "Do you see the small gate over there?" "No", Christian replied. "Can you see a shining light over there?" said Evangelist. "I think I do" said Christian. "Very well." said Evangelist, "Keep your eye upon it, take this parchment scroll, go straight up to the gate, knock upon the door and you will receive instructions about the way to go." Having given this help and advice, Evangelist left Christian, but there were two of Christian's fellow townspeople who persisted in trying to persuade him to give up the idea of starting on his pilgrimage. One named "Obstinate", realising that to accompany Christian would mean leaving his friends and comforts behind, soon decided that he would certainly not go with him. "Pliable" his friend however, hearing from Christian how many blessings lay ahead for pilgrims, a life of joy where there shall be no more tears or sorrows and life everlasting given free to those who enter it, was more ready to go with Christian. Pliable, as his name suggests, in his enthusiasm urged Christian to hurry so that they could together hasten on their way to the Celestial Country" Christian, however, though willing to do as Pliable asked, replied that he could not go as fast as he would like to because of the heavy burden which he was carrying on his back. The Slough of Despond No sooner had he said this than they both fell suddenly into a deep and muddy bog, known as the "Slough of Despond"

Essentially humans are inclined towards loving but when we tend to humanize nature there theeruption of desires starts crowning. In the history of human evolution there are numerous cases of humanly exploitation of nature and it's tacit undermining of natural resources. Literature had always been true to the projection of life be it in conundrum of civilized cities or the pristine life in jungle. So as with The Jungle Book (2016) directed by John Favreau based on the classic work of children's literature i.e. Rudyard Kipling's The Jungle Book (1894). This paper aims to deal with the projective analysis of the movie from ecocritical vision further elucidated with emerging biocritical approach of human in terms of their relationship with nature.

Be it the expeditions of Britain or the 'French Revolution' one staggering emotion has always held the youth bound to the glory attached to war i.e., liberation. Therefore, the romantic age poets namely Wordsworth, Coleridge, PB Shelley or Lord Byron though they never promoted violence and bloodshed of the war-front, still they could not escape from the dazzled glory of war. Owing to the ignition of the world, the current of romanticism found its roots in the very soil of nature, thereby came the primitive radical attitude. Edward Dowden, prominent Victorian critic, viewed 'French Revolution' as an expounding force that framed the ideology of romanticism and intertwines in the pretext of major works of the era. These romantic writers were stirred from the belittling attitude of government towards nature and citizens. Romanticism was slowly but steadily ushering on the frontier of liberty, equality and fraternity further strengthening the dilemma of war being fruitful for the common man. In this paper, we aim to actualize the reality of war being romanticized by poets to the extremity of squandering their own life in it.

Dystopian fiction is one such fiction where extremity rules, where vandalizing bodies, constant surveillance and ultimate subjugation of civilians in the hands of government is at the core. Though the dystopian fiction creates a world of endless misery and downtrodden civilian rights still it’s epicenter more or less revolves around the folly of human society. Future is one thing that kept every society thriving but opportuning and profiteering from the very unforeseen is the working stratagem of the dystopian societies where bleak future is supposedly transformed into predictable statistics. Analyzing the workings of dystopian societies lend us to one very rudiment trajectory i.e. Discipline and Punishment as described by Foucault in his work Discipline and Punish where channelizing humans is a matter of just appraisal and punishment. Subjection, modification and alteration are what propels the machinery of dystopian societies. Drawing from this, Margaret Atwood carves out a theocratic totalitarian society of Gilead on fundamentals of misogynist religion in her work The Handmaid’s Tale. In quest of fabricating a society with perfection, the
theocratic government was clear of the point that “Better never means better for everyone. It always means worse for some.” (Commander Waterford)

DH Lawrence, a prominent unabashed writer of this postwar and pre-feminist century evolves on the threshold of the concept of new woman with works like “Women in Love.” Emancipation of women from patriarchy is the most fantasized concept in the realm of all waves of feminism and Lawrence‟s view of pre-war women, as aptly pointed out by Hilary Simpson, suggests that he sought to have harboured a firm faith in woman‟s capacity to disrupt the order of manly accord. However, the contemporary world‟s conception of women is framed through ecclesiastical disciplinary conception with concurrent streams of feministic thought process both working adjunct to the antecedent image of women. Though the flagship of feminism had been a century old, the implicit effect fails to show up in the real world forcing the movement to get cut in waves as an analogy to unprecedented tale of unfinished agony.Hélène Cixous, a second wave feminist, envisions women‟s libidinal economy different from that of male‟s libidinal economy and pertaining to this feminism,

Essentially, past trauma and traumatic memories affect an individual's external reality along with his internal reality. The consequences of traumatic experience have been problematic both within the psychiatry and psychoanalysis. The authors like D.H Lawrence, Stephen King, Andrea Kleine, Lidia Yuknavitch Roxane Gay, etc., attempt to bridge the gap between psychiatry and literary writing through the portrayal of psychical trauma in their writings. In Gerald's Game, King depicted a woman namedJessia Burlingame who faced sexual violence in her childhood. This atrocious incident leaves behind some sort of "mnemic trace", which she repressed in her psyche. Later, that 'repressed memory' got triggered when her husband, Gerald tried to cage her in conventional women's role. As a result, this 'repressed memory'becomes traumatic in retroactive frame, which deeply troubled her in the womanhood, as discussed in psychic traumatic theory(Nachträglichkeit)of the French psychoanalyst Sigmund Freud. The present paper focuses primarily on the mechanism of delayed traumatic reaction of psychic trauma depicted in Stephen King's psychological novel Gerald's Game. It also aims to throw light on how a repressed memory of the heinous past, becomes an obstacle in one's development as a human.
