Throughout the year, the UC Davis chapter of the Association for Women in Mathematics engaged in coding events that have been enriching experiences. They hosted a Python Turtle Workshop, which was led by their vice president, Jessica. In this workshop, Jessica took them through a tutorial on drawing with Python Turtle. They learned about everything, from the fun colors to the different shapes. They even had the chance to try it out on their own as they learned during the meeting. The event was super collaborative as they all admired the lesson and showcased their new skills. The event was also exciting since it was refreshing to apply their mathematical interests to coding. Another event they had was a lecture-style event, and it was led by their graduate chair, Dasha, who presented a peek into theoretical computer science. Coding and math are deeply connected, so it was inspiring to learn more about the mathematical side of computer science. Their club always formulates a positive environment, which makes every meeting an adventure. As they witnessed board members bring in pieces of their coding experiences, they learned more about each other and opened up their eyes to new experiences.
