I like the idea behind the app since I find it aesthetically pleasing but the widget is so glitchy (I have an iPhone 16 pro, running on the newest IOS). I can’t access the vinyl app from the widget (clicking it does nothing despite the app settings indicating it should open the app) and often times the widget just completely greys out, and I have to re-add the widget to my home screen to get it to work again. Also, the record image on the widget doesn’t update automatically between songs. You have to switch back-and-forth between the vinyl app and your home screen to get the widget’s record image to update. The widget is the main thing that it has going for it in my opinion, since you can’t select songs or playlists from directly within the vinyl app (it only has a forward, back, and play/pause button) - you have to go to whatever your primary music app is to select a particular song. In which case, you end up using your primary music app most of the time anyway. One feature I really would like to see added (after the bugs are fixed) is the ability for the widget background to be transparent. It would just really elevate the home screen much more.In my opinion, it’s not worth the $5 or however much I paid with these issues. I will say I do really appreciate that they didn’t try to charge a subscription. That is a MAJOR plus.
Hello, thank you for your detailed feedback and for giving MD Vinyl a try! We're glad to hear you appreciate the aesthetic and the fact that we don't charge a subscription. 😊 Regarding the issues you're experiencing with the widget, we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience. The behavior you're describing, such as the widget not updating between songs and sometimes greying out, is likely due to system limitations introduced in the latest iOS version. Specifically, iOS enforces stricter refresh limits on widgets, which can cause delays in updating song information and album art. We're continuously working to optimize the refresh logic to improve this experience, and we hope that future system updates will also help address these limitations. As for the issue where clicking the widget doesn't open the app, we recommend ensuring that both MD Vinyl and your iOS are updated to the latest versions. If the issue persists, please feel free to reach out to us at feedback@md.studio, and we'll be happy to assist further. We truly appreciate your support and your feedback, as it helps us improve the app. Thank you again for sharing your thoughts, and we hope you continue to enjoy the aesthetic experience MD Vinyl offers! 🎶
