Taliban fighters and Pakistani forces exchanged fire Thursday morning along the border in Afghanistan’s eastern Kunar province, local sources said.

The clashes began around 7 a.m. in the Doklam area of Narai district and continued intermittently, the sources said. They added that Pakistani troops opened fire, alleging the presence of Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) members in the area.

There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage. The Taliban have not commented.

The incident comes amid rising tensions along the border in recent months. Both sides have accused each other of harboring militants, with Islamabad pressing the Taliban to act against TTP safe havens and the Taliban accusing Pakistan of cross-border shelling.

While the Taliban deny the presence of TTP fighters in Afghanistan, a United Nations monitoring team has reported that the group maintains about 6,000 fighters inside the country.

Analysts warn that continued skirmishes risk further straining already fragile ties between the Taliban and Pakistan, as both countries grapple with deepening security and economic challenges.
