This painting was done by Ayomikun Omoyiola, a 10 year old Nigeria’s Youngest Peace ambassador presented this art work to the president of Nigeria, His Excellency, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan at the just concluded Nigeria Centenary celebration in Abuja. This is mixed media painting titled ‘United We Stand!’ For the painting she used acrylic paint, poster colour and cut out magazine texts and pictures glued on a cardboard. The painting titled ‘Unites We Stand’ shows a picture of four people holding hands together, two males and two females, all dressed in their native attires. The four people represent the four different regions we have in Nigeria; the easterners, southerners, westerners and the northerners, all standing with joined hands.
Behind them is a Nigerian flag and cut out texts and pictures. Above the Nigerian flag are a collection of fruits and four doves flying with Nigeria flags on their beaks. The background was painted to make the figures more visible and create contract in the painting.
The meaning of the painting: the dark background shows the challenges Nigeria is facing such as poverty, unemployment, kidnapping, terrorism, tribalism, corruption, insufficient power supply among many others. The Four people show a sense of unity against the challenges we are facing as a nation. The 10 years old Nigeria’s Youngest Peace Ambassador said ‘There is need for us to be united as a people in order to succeed in all we do. It doesn’t matter our religion, region, tribes, gender or class. We must be united to make a better Nigeria and to take Nigeria to greater heights.
The four doves flying the Nigerian flag shows peace in the east, south, west and northern part of Nigeria because we are united!. Also the fruits represent prosperity in Nigerian economy as a result of peace and unity of the people. The painting was done to advocate for peace and unity in Nigeria and also celebrate Nigeria at 100.
