BIOGRAPHY OF THEOPENCIL Theopencil is a young talented Ghanaian Artist born on the 5th day of May, 1993 and lives in Accra, Ghana. With no formal education in art work, his works has been viewed across the world with amazement and wonder. The realism of his drawings has captivated many people. His real name is Theophilus Boateng Kwaku Sarpong but was given the name Theopencil by his friends because of the magic he performs with just a pencil. He discovered his talent as an artist at the age of eight when he used to draw cartoons just for fun. Theopencil advanced as a hyper realistic pencil artist at the early ages of seventeen. His area of specialization in the arts industry is mostly works on human figures. He is good in color works but most of his master pieces are in pencil which inspires him a lot. At the age of 21, Theopencil has made realistic pencil portraits of some famous personalities including Kofi Annan – Former United Nations Secretary General, Nelson Mandela – Former South African President, Niki Minaj – A popular American Music Artist, Jerry John Rawlings and John Agyekum Kufuor – Former Presidents of the Republic of Ghana, Jackie Appiah – A popular Ghanaian Actress, Nana Akufo Addo – 2012 Presidential Candidate for the New Patriotic Party, Barack Obama – President of the United State of America and John Dramani Mahama – President of the Republic of Ghana and others. Theopencil is always drawing and it would be a great delight that the next pencil art work would be yours.
Looking at a society, community or Nation with all sort of set back, the general body of human
race as whole put the blame on the present leaders. in my opinion its not fair. looking back in history the present president of Nigeria (Jonathan Ebele) said his so touching story ”i went to school with no shoes”. i.e coming from a low level background
so he said he blamed it on the present leader then but now what? same old story. in the image above illustrate the careless mental attitude towards criticising the real problem. African proverb said if u want to kill a tree cut the root also if u want to grow a tree wet the Roots. Let us help the future by paying attention to now.
was born in Accra, Ghana on March, 1995 and has had interest in technological science since his childhood days.
Due to his scientific interests, he had little knowledge he was destined to be an artist.
His artistic interests dawned him in his later years. Although his parents were not supportive of the idea of being an artist, it has been his dream to connect to the world through his artworks.
He focuses on charcoal and graphite drawings but looks forward to making art through other various media.
He is self-taught and has been nicknamed ‘pencilmaster’ by his colleagues due to the great works he produces.
Though he draws some inspiration from great artists like Leonardo Da Vinci and J. D. Hillberry, he is mainly self-inspired and draws motivation from his brother.
He is currently offering computer engineering in the University of Ghana, Legon, but works hard to develop his talent too.
He looks forward to attaining national and international recognition through his works of art.

Pen art.
He started drawing at a very early age, around age 5. Growing up as an artist was pretty cool since he had the necessary support from his parents. Classmates and teachers were also of great inspiration to him. He found his rhythm with the ballpoint pen soon after his first degree and national service, 2013. It had been my plan that he would practice art (sculpture and painting) for a year or two, before enrolling for his master’s degree. This decision was inspired by the notion that it is very difficult and almost impossible to practice art on full time without having a second job to support. So he took the gamble and went in with all energy. He eventually began to feel the pressure as warned, but then he re-strategize. Using the most affordable materials available is the solution to his predicaments, and lying right on his desk were ballpoint pens hens his solution.
His has been drawing with the ballpoint pen since his high school days craving for a good craftsmanship. Doodling and making scrabbles to fine and detailed drawings in his sketch books and book covers. Funny enough, He has never considered drawing as an art form on its own but rather a potable tool that can be employed to register preliminary ideas to be executed later in a different media, but has now become one of the best means through which he confidently communicate his experiences to the world using the ballpoint pen and paper.
