@pawv Yeah, people forget that there are actually a lot of legitimate reasons not to necessarily have gone up.Some people won't maintain the existing post visibility as you've seen, so it switches. (This is also annoying if you set something to quiet, they respond with public, and then your response to them defaults to public. If you don't catch it, suddenly a thing you meant to be quiet turns public even on your end...)I also personally have issues in that if I click on a post it's going to lose my place scrolling through. I have to open a new tab (which means reloading the whole site in the new tab, not just the post) and sometimes when just scrolling down and seeing a post I just don't want to go through all that just to say "but what about the cat factor?" or something.

@mikelovesbikes @homegrown It's a large instance that is poorly moderated but still has plenty of legitimate members. Because of this I've had mastodon.cloud limited here for about 2 years to allow follow relationships while preventing spam from spreading.I don't recommend a block. I recommend limiting IMHO.

@smallcircles> I also meant adjacent category to your top-level division, like service exchange networksI'm guessing you mean things like;* complementary currency exchanges: timebanks, LETS/ green dollars, etc* hospitality sites: BeWelcome, WarmShowers* dating sites: replacing Tinder, Bumble, etcTo me these all come under social communication networks. We may need to agree to disagree on this, but let's see if we can disagree in a way that produces more light than heat : )

@thisismissem I just checked, if I want to double my (peasley) 16GB RAM it would be roughly $400. When I first bought the laptop that stick of memory was $108 🥲

@nitrml @Logical_Error The Mastodon API would enable this, and there is a GitHub issue about the request where you can signal your support: https://github.com/anze3db/fedidevs/issues/167It's outside my area, but it could be done.
