Product Design Manager - Private Sharing

Instagram’s Private Sharing team is dedicated to building experiences that help people connect with those they care about in meaningful, trusted, and creative ways. As the Design Manager for Private Sharing, you will lead a team working across product areas like Notes, Map and new product bets. You’ll play a pivotal role in shaping the future of friend sharing on Instagram, driving high-impact design work, and fostering a craft, creativity, and collaboration.

Responsibilities

  • Build and manage a team of designers that consistently deliver on projects and is well-balanced across a range of design skill sets
  • Responsible for overall team performance and health, resource allocation, project prioritization, and maintaining a practice of high design craft
  • Lead and manage the design and end-to-end experience of a product from conception to launch in partnership with product managers, engineers, user experience researchers and other creative disciplines
  • Contribute to high-level strategic decisions with the rest of the product and design leadership teams, driving business outcomes through design
  • Develop design talent where designers grow in their careers

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Computer Science, or a related field and minimum of 8 years of experience in relevant field
  • A portfolio that demonstrates relevant work, a proven understanding of best practices in product design, and a track record of shipping useful, usable, and beautiful products
  • 4+ years of design management experience with direct reports under your guidance and leadership
  • 8+ years of experience working collaboratively with product, engineering, design, content and user research teams
  • Experience building and shipping applications or software across a variety of platforms
  • Experience leading product direction and strategic thinking with the experience developing product goals, identifying opportunities, and making decisions based on the impact to people and the company
  • Experience representing work to a broader product team and other leaders, clearly and succinctly articulating the goals and concepts

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience designing 0-1 products (from initial idea to launch)
  • Experience leading design for high-craft consumer software products
  • Experience working on large scale, complex projects across multiple organization pillars, with a focus on design systems and UI/UX
  • Experience working with Machine Learning, generative AI, or Large Language Models (LLMs)
  • Experience with design operations and process optimization
  • Experience designing products for entertainment, social platforms, or for young adults

Compensation

$201,000/year to $278,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits

Individual compensation is determined by skills, qualifications, experience, and location. Compensation details listed in this posting reflect the base hourly rate, monthly rate, or annual salary only, and do not include bonus, equity or sales incentives, if applicable.
