Christmas in Miri

As usual, Christmas parade has become an annual affair in Miri. The year, it was held last Saturday.
After the parade, was the usual open air concert.
Despite the slight rain the crowd was quite big.
The usual Christmas tree at the Miri City Fan.  Samling company constructed this huge tree and display again this year.
I didn't take many photos and I hope you like the above photos and the effect I use. They are straight from my camera!

Christmas Parade 2011

Christmas Parade 2011 on 3rd Dec saw a record number in turnout. From the crowd compared to last year, there was a lot more people. But for this year, there was a little less colour.
If not for the heavy rain, it would have been a lot more fun. I could not join the band as the rain was a real nuisance!
Lighting up the huge Christmas tree by pressing the remote button. Datuk Chin Fah Kui had the honour to press the button.
The beautiful Christmas tree ... I think the top part failed to light up.
Congratulating each other...
The Christmas tree will be there for sometime. So, good opportunity for everyone to go over to take some pictures.

May you have a blessed Easter

On Easter Sunday, Christians celebrate the resurrection of the Lord, Jesus Christ. It is typically the most well-attended Sunday service of the year for Christian churches.
Christians believe, according to Scripture, that Jesus came back to life, or was raised from the dead, three days after his death on the cross. As part of the Easter season, the death of Jesus Christ by crucifixion is commemorated on Good Friday, always the Friday just before Easter. Through his death, burial, and resurrection, Jesus paid the penalty for sin, thus purchasing for all who believe in him, eternal life in Christ Jesus.
This morning Methodist Churches in Miri organised a combined worship at 8AM. It was at ...
Mega Hotel. Speaker was Dr. Su. The place was packed...
... with lots of people.

2010 Methodist Youth Convention

Today, 18-Dec-2010, is the first day of the annual Methodist Youth Convention 2010 held at Curtin University of Technology in Miri. This year, Grace Methodist Church is hosting the event, which will end on Monday.
The attendees will be staying at the university hostel and everyone is guaranteed a bed, warm water to shower and I think air-con room for everyone.
The university is at Senadin. The setting is nice... lots of green, ...
... man-made lakes and beautiful sunrise and sunset!
Over the next few days, they will be well fed...
... with enough food...
... which I think they all enjoyed very much.
In the afternoon, they had ice-breakers. No problem, they all get to know each other through this type of games.
... worship.
Before the food was fully digested, they were fed again at tea break.
... and more ice-breaking. This time, another group from Kuching finally arrived.
At dinner, they were well fed again.
We had Pastor Herbert Tan delivering a message for the evening session.
The crowd was much bigger. Altogether, there were just over 200 participants from all over Sarawak.

Christmas Parade 2010

(Pictures had been uploaded to my facebook. Click here to see)
Tonight, Miri City Fan was crowed with people. I have never seen such a big crowd at this place before.
Some scenery of City Fan
Another angle at City Fan
The huge crowd after the parade round the town. Click on this image for a bigger picture. Make sure that the display  is maximized.
Speech... not sure who he is. YB Datuk Lee seems very bored!
Some youngsters amused themselves
CM Taib gave his speech. I think he gave a good speech tonight.
Brass Band leading the parade.
After CM declared the parade "open", this fountain lighted up!
The view of the fountain from the stage.
Huge crowd from Methodist.
Very nice decoration at the City Fan. If you have not gone there, make sure you make the trip there quickly. Someone paid a substantial sum of money for this decoration.
Another view of the fountain and the huge Christmas tree.

Weekend Happenings

I have been quite busy over the weekend. Starting off at 6:00AM on Saturday, I went through the practical aspect of my basic photography course at the lake in Permy. I went around photoshooting.
Bintang Mega Mall. It has gone through quite a lot of changes over the last 2-3 years. I think the construction of the hotel has slowed down.
Christmas fever is now on! Weekend was quite at Bintang. Then I realised that ...
... there is a fun fare at Boulevard.
A stage for singers and performances.
Then this guy was selling his 7-in-1 gadgets for home use. The price came down from RM799 to RM249.Go there and check it out if you are interested.

Tudan Methodist Church Dedication Service

Last Sunday, we witnessed the dedication service of Tudan Methodist Church. This church is built with the indigenous people in mind as it is built amongst their midst.
The magnificent church
Rev Dato Su, President of SCAC put his signature on.
Later we were all treated to a sumptuous meal cooked and prepared by the ladies.
Arrival of  the VIP
We have a good time for praise and worship.
A lot of people turned up for the event.

Choir presentation by the kids. They did a good job.
